The Heritage Society of Pacific Grove encourages youth and adults, artists, architects, contractors, craftspeople, andothers to design and build unique birdhouses and/or little libraries to benefit Heritage Society programs and projects. We encourage birdhouses/libraries that reflect the builder’s vision of Pacific Grove’s architectural heritage. Birdhouses will be judged by the public for awards and be placed on the auction block with proceeds to benefit the Heritage Society of Pacific Grove. The youth builder may choose to keep their entry after the presentation of awards or allow it to be auctioned to the highest bidder, alongside the adult entries, to benefit the Heritage Society.

Entry forms must be delivered to the Heritage Society of Pacific Grove no later than Saturday, September 20th, 2015 and completed birdhouses/librariesby September 20th, 2015. The Heritage Society’s office, at Ketcham’s Barn, is located at 605 Laurel Ave., and is open Saturdays between 1-4pm. Call (831) 646-0351 if special arrangements are necessary.

The auction will begin when the birdhouses/libraries are placed on display in locations throughout the community fromMonday, September 21 through Friday, October 2, 2015.

On Sunday, October 4th, 2015, the birdhouses/libraries will be brought to Elmarie Dyke Park (next to Chautauqua Hall) for the final public presentation and silent auction, held at in conjunction with the Artists in Chautauqua. Visitors will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite birdhouse and place their final bids in the auction. The silent auction will close at 3:30pm and auction payment and pick-up will be held from 4pm to 5pm.

The public votes will be tallied and the result will assist in determining a winning birdhouse in each of the design categories listed on the reverse of this application:

  • Historical, Pacific Grove
  • Cottage/Beach House
  • Whimsical/Eclectic
  • Architects Delight
  • Historical, General
  • America’s Beat (Most Patriotic)
  • “Green” House (best use of “green” materials

Additional awards will be awarded in these three categories:

  • People’s Choice Award
  • Best-of-Show
  • Mayor’s Choice Award (selected by the Mayor of Pacific Grove)

All elevencategory birdhouse winners will receive an award.

In addition, the best little library as judged by the Mayor will receive an award!
