The Heavy Price of SIN - To what shall we compare it?

  1. Where SIN Began - Genesis 3:1-19…God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you _____.'" 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be ______, knowing good and evil." 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her ______ with her, and he ate. …14 So the Lord God said to the serpent: "______ you have done this, …I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; he shall bruise your ______, and you shall bruise His heel." 16 To the woman He said: "I will greatly multiply your______ and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” 17 Then to Adam He said, "______ you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it':"Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return."
  • Consider the ramifications: Romans 5:12-13…just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because ______-- 13 (For until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

  • All of this is a ______ of SIN.

  1. What did Cain’s sin cost him? Genesis 4:3-15 …6 So the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be ______? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.“ 8 Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. 9 Then the Lord said to Cain, "… you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth."13 And Cain said to the Lord, "My punishment is greater than I can ______! 14 Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face… anyone who finds me will kill me.“ …

Genesis 37:23-27So it came to pass, when Joseph had come to his brothers, that they stripped Joseph of his tunic, …Then they took him and cast him into a pit. And the pit was empty; there was no water in it. 25 And they sat down to ______. Then they lifted their eyes and looked, and there was a company of Ishmaelites, … So Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is there if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? 27 Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother and our flesh."…

  1. What can we learn from the sins of Samson? Judges 16:20-21And she said, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" So he awoke from his sleep, and said, "I will go out as ______, at other times, and shake myself free!" But he did not

know that the Lord had departed from him. 21 Then the Philistines took him and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison.

  1. God Lays the Scene out for us: Romans 6:1-23What shall we say then? Shall we ______in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who _____ to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was ______ with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin.8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its ______. 13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. 15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves ______to _____, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for ______. 20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is ______in Christ Jesus our Lord.
  1. We ALL need Jesus: Romans 3:21-23But now the righteousness of God apart from the Law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; 23 for ______ have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

  • You & me
  • NONE exempt
  • ALL need Jesus
  • YOUR reward?

  1. We don’t need to be without hope! I Corinthians 15:12-21Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no ______ of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. 14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.15 Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, Whom He did not raise up--if in fact the dead do not rise. 16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. 17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the

most______. 20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.

  1. Why Does Any of This Really Matter? Revelation 20:10-15The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. 11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him Who sat on it, from Whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of ______. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found ______ in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

  1. What will you do with Jesus? What will you do with YOU? Revelation 21:1-7Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the Holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from Heaven saying, "Behold, the Tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more ______, for the former things have passed away."5 Then He Who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful.“ 6 And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life ______ to him who thirsts. 7 He who ______ shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
