The Happenings in Ms. Ketners’ Class

May 8th, 2017 edition

Dear Families,

What an amazing week at camp! Big thanks to all of our wonderful parent chaperones. You guys were AMAZING! We had a few showers, but for the most part had “ok” weather, kids made lots of memories, tried new camp experiences, dressed up like dorks for our yearly “dork dance”, and most of all had a great time with old friends and made some new ones too!

Just a quick reminder that our Science MSP test will happen this Thursday. Please help your child by encouraging them to get to bed early the night before and to have a good breakfast. They can bring in gum to chew during the test and we will have a few breaks if they would like to bring in a healthy snack or two. They are going to do GREAT!

In the classroom:

Reading:

-  Comprehending the differences between explicit and implicit meaning in texts.

-  Read aloud: We Are Not Eaten By Yaks by. Alexander London

Writing:

-  We are currently working with developing ideas for memoir writing.

-  Reading example memoirs to get a good grasp on what makes a good momoir.

-  Memoirs can often be very personal and can also bring out many emotions in kiddos. This is such a special writing unit. Ask your child what they are writing about… their “big ideas” are amazing!

Science:

-  Continuing our look into Chapter 6 with the flow of electricity.

Math:

- Beginning Module 6 math/coordinates. We are currently on lesson 4 and our mid-module assessment with follow lesson 10.

History:

-  Chapter 10 test: Tuesday, May 9th.

-  Students will be bringing home their history journals to help prepare them for this test.

Calendar

June 15th 9:30 am- 5th grade graduation!

As we move closer to the end of the year, the weather is nice and the kids are getting ready for a fun filled summer break. Please remind your kiddos to dig deep and push through to the very end. We still have 6 weeks of learning left! Also, if you could help me by encouraging your child to keep “at home” toys at home, that would be GREAT!!! We have had a bit of a problem with balls, fidgets, toys, hats, and other distractions in our classroom. Thank you so much for all of your help and support! P5 parents rock!!!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
