The Guide to prayer for Dummies

Written by:______

Based on what is written below your task is to create a 6 – 10 step process for prayer. You are to create them so they are suitable for your peers (i.e. aimed at teenage boys). As well as the steps also compose a short prayer that asks God to help you to pray better. You are then to create a small booklet/pamphlet with your steps in them – however you must draft your steps and prayer first and then get a piece of paper from Mr Gorman for the booklet/pamphlet.

Jesus Said (from Matt 6:5-14)

When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites! They love to stand up and pray in the houses of worship and on the street corners, so that everyone will see them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full. But when you pray, go to your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Any your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you.

When you pray, do not use a lot of meaningless words, as the pagans do, who think that their gods will hear them because their prayers are long. Do not be like them. Your Father already knows what you need before you ask him. This, then, is how you should pray:

“Our Father in heaven

Hallowed by your name

Your Kingdom come

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread

And forgive us our sins

As we forgive those who sin against us

Save us from the time of trial

And deliver us from evil”

If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Gather will not forgive the wrongs you have done.

And he also said (from Matt 7:712)

Ask and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks will receive, and anyone who seeks will find, and the door will be opened to those who knock. Would any of you who are fathers give your son a stone when he asks for bread? Or would you give him a snake when he asks for a fish? As bad as you are, you know how to give good things to your children. How much more then, will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Do for others what you want them to do for you: this is the meaning of the Law of Moses and of the teachings of the Prophets.
