Visionary – Development Manager Job Description

Job Title:Development Manager (Income Development Team)

Responsible to:Head of Income Development

Responsible for:No line reports at present (this may change as the team develops)

Location:Home based although it is a requirement of employment that the post-holder be prepared to work at any additional or different locations as may be necessary. The role does involve regular travel to London and national travel.

Salary: £36 - £38k Dependant on experience

Hours: Full time 36 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Function:

To be responsible to the Head of Income Development for a range of

regional support activities to achieve a more joined up sight loss sector

and unlock the potential to operate more efficiently to the benefit of

people living with sight loss. This will also include working directly with

members and others to review and secure the necessary resources to

implement development plans.

Main Duties:
  1. To contribute to thedevelopment of and jointly deliver a programme ofregionalsupport activitywith the aim of providingvoluntary sectorservices for blind and partially sighted people on a more joined up, sustainable basis, particularly at a regional and local level. This will involve working closely with existing local organisations and other partners to determine how this can best be done.
  1. To support members in the development of consistent and common organisational and service delivery principles and operating guidelines to ensure that services are delivered to a consistently high quality standard based on what blind and partially sighted people want and need.
  1. To work closely with members to broker and secure engagement with others in the Visionary team, especially those leading on quality frameworks and impact and outcome measurement.
  1. To deliver direct support to members regardingtheir income development activity with the outcome that members are able to secure financial and operational resources in line with their organisations’objectives. Support may be delivered face to face and remotely.
  1. To directly provide specialist advice and supportto Visionarymembers in relation to thekey income development activities of (but not limited to) fundraising, grants and charitable trading.
  1. To support the Head of Income Development work on supporting members’ development of paid for/commissioned/contracted services.
  1. To develop a range of income development resources that members can use to enhance their income development activities e.g. toolkits/how to guides, good practice case studies, study visits, online tools etc..
  1. To establish forums, working groups or other on/off line mechanisms that facilitate learning and promotes a culture of sharing information and resources across the Visionary membership.
  1. To work on a regional basis across a number of specific regions, ensuring that strong relationships with members and other relevant partner organisations are established to ensure any work is developed on a consistent cross-sector basis.
  1. Ensure that all Visionary activity and delivery is line with the ‘Seeing it My Way’ outcomes and encourages member organisations to operate in line with them.
  1. Ensure that all areas of work operate and deliver in line with the Visionary business plan, agreed project plans and budgets. In particular, contribute effectively to the CRM systemensuring accurate monthly management information reporting from the CRM system and present regular progress reports to the Head of Income Development and the CEO.
  1. Ensure that any programmes are delivered in accordance with the organisation’s policies and plans in relation to Equalities, Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Green Policy and Human Resources.
  1. Work cooperatively in conjunction with other Visionary staff/departments to implement the organisation’s business plan including working with staff from Thomas Pocklington Trust and other partners as appropriate.
  1. Be responsible for any grant funded projects within areas of responsibility and ensure that they perform in line with the funding and contractual requirements.
  1. For direct line reports to be responsible for performance management i.e. undertaking induction, probation reviews, one to one meetings and appraisals, setting objectives and monitoring work performance.
  1. For projects involving volunteers, ensure that the recruitment and deployment of volunteers is in compliance with legislation and the Charity’s Volunteering Policy and procedures.
  1. Represent the organisation effectively with external organisations, to prepare and present reports to external bodies and to participate as needed in national and local forums for voluntary sector involvement.
  1. Work as an effective member of the VisionaryTeam, contributing to all aspects of service development.
  1. Assist the Head of Income Development in any other aspect of Visionary’s services and projects as may reasonably be required taking account of the nature and scope of the duties of this position. The staff team is structured to enable team members to work across different work streams depending on experience and skillset even if their primary assignment is not to that area.

Special Requirements

The post requires lone working and some working out of normal office hours. A willingness to work in an environment with Guide Dogs is essential. Regular travel to London (Euston) is required for team meetings.

National travel to visit member organisations and attend regional events is also required.
