This year we have 9 lovely gardens in and around Middletown, NY. They range from small city gardens to country gardens with ponds and large garden features. Each garden is special and unique.

Last year we talked to the artists and listened to their suggestions. We have tried to incorporate the artists’ suggestions into this year’s event. If you have any ideas that would make this years “Artists in the Gardens” event even better, please let us know. We do listen and do respond.

This year you will be able to set your price. The will not be a silent auction. There will be a $25.00 registration and hanging fee which must be submitted with this application. Unless you specify the type of environment you prefer, you will be assigned a garden to be in. We would like to have an artist in every garden at all times. Many of those who took the tour last year enjoyed seeing the artists at work.

This year we will encourage the homeowners to allow the artists into the garden prior to the tour especially if the garden has blooms out before the tour date. We will inform the owners of the gardens that they can purchase the work produced or can even commission the artist to do a particular scene.

Enclosed is a list of the artist’s guidelines and expectations. Please read these. When you register, you are agreeing to these conditions. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions.

  1. When working in the gardens,
  1. The artists must bring their own chairs and equipment. (Don’t use the home owner’s chairs or tables.)
  2. Keep easels from blocking paths so the garden tour participants have access to the gardens.
  3. Don’t trample or set up equipment on top of flower beds or in garden areas
  4. Have invitations to the exhibit handy to give out to garden tourists
  5. Talk to the garden tour participants about the art process. I’ll bet many would be truly surprised at the cost of a tube of paint or the price of a good brush.
  1. All works done at the garden either on the tour date or at another time if permission of the owner is obtained may be exhibited at SUNY-Orange, Orange Hall Gallery.
  1. Art must be dry, finished and framed with screw eyes and wire on the back of the frame.
  2. Art works must be dropped off to Orange Hall Gallery on Hanging - July 19th, 10 –noon.
  3. Exhibit dates – July 21 through August 16
  4. Take down is August 17 Please make arrangements to pick up you work between 10 am - noon
  5. Artist reception – July 30 4:30 – 7 pm. (Please bring a plate of finger foods.)
  6. If there are not enough works to fill the gallery, artists exhibiting at least one 2010 Garden Tour picture will be invited to hang other floral or garden works. No work previously displayed at the Orange Hall gallery will be hung. You will be contacted after July 4th and asked the size, title, medium and price of each of the one or two pictures from this year’s tour that you will be displaying. If there is addition room you will be notified by email or phone and asked for the information re the additional work.
  1. By signing up for this event, you are agreeing to participate at your own risk and hold harmless the homeowners, the Garden Lovers’ Club, and the Middletown Art Group.

Based on the suggestions of last year’s participating artists, the following changes will be made

  1. Homeowners will be encouraged to invite the artists into their gardens before and after the day of the tour. After you sign up and are assigned a garden the home owner will be notified and given your contact information.
  2. There will not be a silent auction. The artist will set the price for each work. As in other exhibits, the artist would be considered an independent vendor.
  3. The reception is on Friday evening and not during daylight on a weekend when artists might be out painting. Exhibiting artists are expected to be at the reception.
  4. To make sure that the exhibit has more visitors
  1. The Garden Lovers’ will be holding their July meeting in the Gallery
  2. A pinning ceremony will also be held at the Gallery while the exhibit is up
