ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL

Classes will begin at 8:10 am. Students should not arrive on campus before 7:30 am, as there will be no teachers on duty to supervise. If your child is participating in the breakfast program, he/she should arrive at school between 7:40 and 7:50. For security and instructional reasons we are asking parents not to walk their child to the classroom after the first week of school. If you need to speak to your child’s teacher please make an appointment or have the school secretary to call your child’s teacher.

Any child arriving at school after 8:10 am is tardy and should report to the office with his parent before going to the classroom. We also strongly urge for the student to go to the classroom without the parent as this may interrupt classes.

Dismissal for those students who parents pick them up will begin at 3:10 pm. Parents are to pick up their student(s) through the car rider line unless they are signing out early. Students will be escorted out of the building in an organized manner and supervised by staff members to ensure their safety. If you will be picking your child up it will be necessary to send a note to the teacher so that the student can be dismissed at 3:10. If your child is a car rider on a regular basis then a note at the beginning of the year will be sufficient. We would also strongly encourage that, if at all possible, changes in student’s dismissal routines be made before the school day begins.

Students should not be picked up early except for unavoidable reasons. Students MUST be signed out at the office. A written request for early dismissal should be sent on the morning of the dismissal. The time and reason for early dismissal should be included. When possible, appointments should be scheduled after school hours.

Students may only be dropped off or picked up by car at the curb in front of the school building. Cars are NEVER allowed in the bus zone. To eliminate any traffic congestion, we ask that you drop students off along the curb so that cars coming into the school and those already parked in the parking lot will not be blocked in. If you plan on walking your child into the building then please park in the lot designated for parent parking. A car parked for extended time at the curb disrupts the flow of traffic and creates an unsafe situation for children. Please also try to stay off the grassy areas of the lots.

Students will be released only to a parent or guardian unless the school has been notified in writing that someone else has permission to pick up the child.

For security reasons, children may not be picked up from the classroom. Parents must request students from the office.

BUS (TRANSPORTATION)

Bus transportation is a privilege provided by the Washington County Board of Education. The driver is in charge of the bus. The students must obey the transportation rules. Failure to obey the rules could result in the loss of your transportation privilege and/or suspension from school, depending upon the incident. A student must have a transportation slip if a student will be riding a different bus or getting off the bus in a different location. This is to be given to the driver at the beginning of the route. Immediately following any bus violation, the bus driver shall file a written violation report with the principal’s office. The student will be dealt with according to the violation.

The following is a list of rules/regulations which shall be obeyed when riding a bus:

  1. Observe same conduct as in the classroom
  2. Be courteous, use no profane language
  3. Do not eat, drink, or smoke on the bus. No soft drink bottles or cans are allowed on the bus.
  4. Keep the bus clean.
  5. Do not deface bus property.
  6. Cooperate with the driver. Failure to do so will lead to disciplinary action.
  7. Stay in your seat and keep head, hands, arms and feet inside the bus.
  8. Students should not create noise on the bus to the extent that it would distract the driver or interfere with the driver’s ability to hear emergency vehicles or to be distracted by the noise.
  9. Students should arrive at the bus stop well before time for the bus to arrive to eliminate delaying the bus driver and the other students.
  10. Non students are not permitted to ride the bus.
  11. Students on extra-curricular trips and field trips are required to abide by the same safety rules and regulations.

The following are possible disciplinary actions:

  1. Assigned to a specified seat for a designated period of time.
  2. Suspended from riding the bus for a specified period of time.
  3. Other disciplinary actions deemed necessary.

CAFETERIA RULES

The following is a list of rules/regulations which shall be obeyed in the cafeteria:

  1. No food or drink may be taken from the cafeteria without the permission of the monitor on duty or the teacher.
  2. Students should show respect to the cafeteria workers by demonstrating good manners when asking for servings and refrain from talking to other students as they go through line.
  3. The monitor on duty is in charge of the cafeteria and should be treated with respect.
  4. Talk in a voice suitable for the cafeteria. Other people in the cafeteria should be able to hear without talking loudly.
  5. Students shall not get on the floor, once seated, to go back for condiments, forks, etc. Instead they should raise their hands and the monitor will bring it to them.
  6. Once a class has been dismissed, students should clean the area surrounding where they were seated. They should line up in a single file line to dump their trays.
  7. Trays should be scraped completely and milk cartons closed. Forks should be placed in the pan in the window. Students should then line up in single file and stand quietly until they are dismissed from the cafeteria.

CAFETERIA CHARGING POLICY (District Policy)

Students may not charge “extra” or ALA CARTE items at any time (extra juice, fries, meat, cookies, etc.). This must be paid at time of purchase if money is not in their account. If parents do not want their child(ren) purchasing extra food, please notify the school.

Students may not charge more than $20.00. Letters will be sent home in Tuesday Folders to parents who child has a charge(s) on their accounts. Children will also be told verbally when their account is approaching the limit. Because communication is important and can break down, we ask parents to monitor the amount of money that you send and track as closely as possible.

Any overdue accounts will be the same as the school policy for any student who owes money at the end of the year. Any overdue balances will roll forward to the next school year.

DRESS CODE POLICY
