We are excited that you are considering Children’s Hospital Colorado (Children’s Colorado) for your internship. To promote the safety of our pediatric patients, staff, and you, Children’s Colorado has certain requirements for non-employees coming on our campus. Please share this information with your school, as some of the responsibility is theirs and may require some preparation. The following are some of the primary conditions that are to be met PRIORto you coming to our campus:

Children’s Colorado shall provide students with Health Questionnaire which must be completed before assignment to Children’s Colorado.

The following information is required at leasttwo weeks prior to beginning internship at Children’s Colorado.

  1. A signed copy of the contract agreement supplied by Children’s Colorado submitted to the coordinating

department.

  1. Evidence of professional liability insurance/workers compensation insurance submitted to the coordinating

department.

  1. Certification, by exception, that each student is compliant with the health guidelines required by Children’s

Colorado. (See below.)

4Each student is required to provide a criminal background check dated within 2 weeks prior to beginning internship. This will need to be a national background check, not limited to the state in which the intern currently resides. Some universities assist students with this cost; others may require the student to secure this on their own.

Health Guidelines of Children’s Hospital Colorado

Immunization records must contain proof of the following:

  1. Documentation of two MMR vaccines or laboratory evidence of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella.
  2. Documentation of two Varicella (chicken pox) vaccines or laboratory evidence of immunity to varicella–History of disease is NOT acceptable.
  3. Documentation of Tdap vaccination.
  4. Documentation of completed Hepatitis B series (3 vaccinations). If individual has declined the Hepatitis B immunization series, please have proof of a signed declination statement available upon request.
  5. Influenza vaccination annually.

A current medical record for the intern which provides information related to any chronic health condition(s) at the time of the clinical rotation must be on file and available at the academic institution sponsoring the intern.

Background Check & Drug Screening shall include the following:

  1. Ten (10) panel drug screen.
  2. Background checks shall consist of the following:
  3. Social Security Number Validation
  4. Criminal County
  5. Criminal State
  6. National criminal / Sex offender
  7. Last employment
  8. Education confirmation
  9. License confirmation
  10. HHS sanctions - GSA/OIG government sanctions

As your educational experience will happen at Children’s Colorado located in Colorado, your academic institution will need to recognize that Colorado State law and Children’s Colorado policies will apply to the educational experience. The academic institution will need to demonstrate to Children’s Colorado that they have completed the following checks PRIOR to your arrival:

  1. Office of Inspector General Excluded list at
  2. General Services Administration Excluded Parties List System at and that there are no exclusions pending.
  3. Academic Institution will need to obtain and maintain policies of professional liability and other insurance, including worker’s compensation that will cover you while you are on Children’s Colorado’s campus. Except when prohibited or modified by state law, Children’s Colorado and Academic Institution shall maintain general and professional liability insurance or self-insurance covering bodily injury and property damage to third parties with limits of One Million Dollars ($1,000,000) per occurrence and Three Million Dollars ($3,000,000) in the aggregate on their equipment and personnel, and worker’s compensation insurance in such amounts as required under applicable statutory limits for their employees.
