THREE (3) TALLAHASSEE OUTREACH CLE LUNCHEON SEMINARS

The Appellate Practice Section’s Outreach Committee invites you to attend three CLE seminars on pertinent appellate practice topics. These luncheon CLEs will be held at either The Florida Bar’s Annex, 651 E. Jefferson Street, or the First District Court of Appeal’s Multipurpose Conference Room, 2000 Drayton Drive. For the March 8 and 23 CLEs at the Bar’s Annex, parking is available in the Bar’s parking lot near the Annex and across the street from the Bar. For the February 25 CLE at the First DCA, parking is available in the lots in front of the court. Please be sure to note the location for each CLE for which you register.

All three CLEs programs will be held from 11:45 a.m. until 1:00 pm. Brown-bag lunch is included in the registration fee.

  1. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2016: “WHO’S NEW & WHAT’S NEW AT THE FIRST DCA” (2206)

A panel discussion featuring:

The Hon. Ross L. Bilbrey, Judge, First District Court of Appeal

The Hon. Susan L. Kelsey, Judge, First District Court of Appeal

The Hon. Thomas D. Winokur, Judge, First District Court of Appeal

Todd D. Sanders, Director, Workers’ Compensation Unit, First District Court of Appeal

TBA: The two new judges who will be appointed soon to the First DCA

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This panel will discuss new policies and procedures adopted by the court and allow the First DCA’s newest judges and Director of the Workers’ Compensation Unit to provide helpful insights to their work and how practitioners can improve their work product and assist the judges in deciding their cases. Note: This CLE will be held at the First DCA’s Multipurpose Conference Room.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This panel will provide their personal insight about how they write reply briefs. Are they necessary to file in every case? How do you decide what arguments to address in the reply brief? How do you make a short and concise reply brief? Note: This CLE will be held at the Bar’s Annex.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Appellate Court Rules Committee and Rules of Judicial Administration Committee will be filing their three-year cycle reports with their proposed rule amendments to the Florida Supreme Court in February 2017. Judge Wetherell, ACRC Chair, will provide information about pending proposals to the Florida Rules of Appellate Procedure, and Tom Hall will do the same for the Rules of Judicial Administration. There were several out-of-cycle rules amendments approved by the Florida Supreme Court recently and those will also be discussed. Other items open for discussion will include tips and updates on electronic filing in Florida. Note: This CLE will be held at the Bar’s Annex.
