Case Study Applications for Management Consultants, May 12 2009
----
Remembering Bill Mooney and Presenting the IMC Distinguished Service Award to his Family
by Dr. Drumm McNaughton, CMC
IMC is pleased to present Bill Mooney with its Distinguished Service Award. Bill was the Consultant's Consultant. He passed away on February 19th. Bill helped consultants build profitable consulting practices by becoming client magnets through capitalizing on their expertise and experience, identifying and developing consulting opportunities and operating their practice as a business. He was the premiere Southern California source of ideas and information on consulting.
The award will be presented to Bill's family during the Chapter's May meeting on May 12th. The presentation will be made by Dr. Drumm McNaughton, CMC, IMC's National Chairman. Bill's clients are invited to speak briefly to the family about how Bill helped them get started in the consulting profession and how he supported them as consultants.
Case Study Applications for Management Consultants
by
Joe Herold, Principal of The Herold Consulting Group,
Robert Josefek, Ph.D., President of Josefek Associates Inc., and
Barbara A. Mather CMC, MBA, President, Mather Consulting Group, Inc.
Overview
The sessions for the IMC SoCal May meeting will focus on the importance and value of case studies for consultants. The evening session, facilitated by Barb Mather and Bob Josefek, will put consultants in small groups to collaborate and work on actual case studies. To set the stage for the evening workshop, Joe Herold will facilitate an afternoon session to present and discuss various applications of case studies, including building case studies for marketing your business.
Agenda
What is a case study?
Applications:
a. Adult learning
b. Problem-solving
c. Collaboration
d. Marketing
Building a case study for marketing – participants will begin working through a template to build their own case studies for their websites or other marketing collateral
The evening session will include the discussion around two sample case studies. Barb and Bob will facilitate smaller group discussions, and each group will have an opportunity to share their ideas and recommendations for each case with the larger group. We hope that you will enjoy the value of sharing ideas, approaches, and strategies in a safe learning environment as an example of applied, experiential learning that is most effective for practicing consultants.

Regional Breakfast MeetingsLAX IMC BREAKFAST MEETING: May 1, 2009:
Kristine Quade Presents:
Influencing Global Organizations Using Principles from Complexity Science
We are trained, as professionals, to look at data and sort for patterns in market trends, decision making, organizational behavior, etc. What we notice is limited by choices made when defining data at the beginning. This initial bias can preclude important information from emerging and affect how we work with our clients. Those who understand the power of patterns know that influencing them is an effective way to create change.
Working with patterns requires the ability to be open to what these patterns reveal about what is already present. By taking action to influence patterns, we can have great impact more quickly.
LAX IMC BREAKFAST MEETING: June 5, 2009:
Deborah Peters Presents:
Consultants Creed - Staying a Level Above the Fray
Evolve Your "Thinking System"
As a consultant, gaining new business in a down economy may seem, at times, daunting. This is an incredible time to grow and develop your practice by offering prospective clients a way 'THROUGH' the current global changes.
While most are contracted into FEAR - you can position yourself as a catalyst for those caught in the former linear process of doing business. You can do this by assisting them in taking their companies through the emerging Thinking System process, help them to hire the right people, manage them in the appropriate way and make use of their talents and strengths in new ways.
This all starts with developing your own business in such a fashion, and having gone through the metamorphosis within yourself and your own organization, you'll best attract, relate and assist your clients in doing the same.
There is no lack of business; it's just different than what it was. As a consultant, you must stay ahead of the curve and be always capable of turning around, looking back upon those who have not yet entered the curve, and providing a hand forward.

OC IMC BREAKFAST MEETING: May 14, 2009
Ethics for Consultants:A Slam Dunk or a Moral Dilemma?
With Gene Siciliano, President, Western Management Associates
In many cases, ethics for consultants is not as simple as it sounds. There are gray areas. For example, when are you actually extending the assignment to keep your income coming in when you could conclude sooner? Is your proposed needs assessment mostly self-serving, since you already know where you want to take the client? What if you know another consultant who could serve the client better than you can? How about that referral to your consulting buddy who has already referred business to you? And, of course, how do you handle the referral fee that you got for referring someone into the client?
Join us at our IMC Orange County Breakfast on May 14 as Gene Siciliano, CMC, presents case studies on ethics for consultants. This will be an update of Gene's well received IMC SoCal workshop in September 2006. Interactive session and sharing of experiences will make this a valuable session for all, even if you believe that your are as ethical as Mother Teresa.
Don't miss this thought-provoking breakfast meeting, which will be a lot of fun and also a great networking experience with your fellow consultants in the greater Orange County area.
