Elder Referral Agencies

POLICY:

The facility maintains a standardized referral resource list.

The facility does not have an exclusive agreement to refer to any one agency.

The facility and its employees do not receive any compensation for referring to an agency or provider.

The facility recognizes that locating acceptable housing and appropriate care is an important aspect of providing an appropriate continuity of care for senior citizens.

The facility further recognizes that locating appropriate and quality housing alternatives sometimes depends on elder and vulnerable adult referral agencies attempting to assist with referral.

The facility requires referral agency comply with the Elder and Vulnerable Adult Referral Agency Act RCW 18.330.005 thru 18.330.901 in order to be listed.

UPON REFERRAL:

The facility provides a written copy of the referral resource list to family or senior when the needs of the senior cannot be met by the facility.

The facility will educate the family or senior about the referral professional’s role in helping the client locate appropriate quality housing and care alternatives.

PROCEDURE:

1. The administrator or designee will ensure the referral agencies on the list have provided the facility with the following documentation:

Disclosure of Services

Insurance - at least $1 million of liability insurance

Health Care Release – Washington Health Care Information Act 1991

Compliant with RCW 70.02

2. The administrator or designee will develop a standardized statement for participating referral professionals to sign regarding their compliance with RCW 18.330.

3. The referral agency will need to sign and return the compliance statement with their documentation and then be placed on the list.

As of January1, 2012, referralagenciesthat provide referrals to consumers seeking senior care or senior living mustcomplywith requirementsof the Elder and Vulnerable Adult Placement Referral Agency Act (RCW 18.330), including those relatedtodisclosures and acknowledgements, recordkeeping,refunds,referral intakeforms, and the gathering and disclosing of certain information about the referred housing and care providers.A violationof theregulationsisanunfairor deceptiveactintradeor commerceandanunfair methodof competitionundertheConsumerProtectionAct.

In order to be placed on standardized referral resource list, the referral agency must provide the facility with a copy of the following referral agency documents:

We understand that in order to receive referrals from the facility that we will comply with the Elder and Vulnerable Adult Referral Agency Act RCW 18.330.
