D.C`s Word

Another wet start to “summer”. The water table at Auchinleck is so high that the BE horse trials had to be cancelled after the fields were too wet to get the silage off. Its fingers crossed the weather will improve for the Area Dressage and Eventing we are running next month. Our new web site is up and running. More info will appear as we get used to it. http://branches.pcuk.org/eglinton/news/

Preparations are well advanced for camp. Jill and Heather are working on the senior and junior rides, and this week the cattle have left the big shed which is now being cleared prior to our small team building the stables. Aly’s new development of the buildings mean that we will have to use a new road, after the gate house, with trucks and horse trailers. This will be covered at the pre camp briefing on the 24th. Routes for getting to and from the fields will also be covered.

Planning is underway for the Area Dressage and Eventing on 8th & 9th July. This time we do not want any part to be abandoned, and apart from the qualifiers for the Championships, we are desperate to get the juniors round the XC course. This is the only venue with junior up to PC Open XC courses. We will even have Riding Club classes over the lower heights. We will need a lot of help to run both of these events, and the setting up. Please donate some of your time and have a fun day out. Profits from these and other events are used to subsidise rallies etc.

The Area Games saw both our senior and junior A teams winning from L&U, with the B teams 5th and 6th respectively. Both A teams qualify for the Zone on 12th July and the Senior A team for the Highland Show. Our two day games competition at Girvan was held in brilliant sunshine, with the threat of rain at the end of the second day. John’s team overcame lots of problems to run a successful two days with Senior A team second to L&U and the Junior A team third and the B team fifth again. Well done to all!

Hot off the press…..A change to the rules on riding hats.

1. Hats must be worn (fastened) at all times, including prize giving, when mounted.

2. Hats with vertical plastic / metallic strips are not permitted.

3. For organised endurance rides only, ventilated hats meeting the reqd. standards, and tagged with the PC endurance hat tag, may be worn.

4. S/J & mounted games…the cover shall be dark blue, black or brown only.

Dressage…hats & covers must be mostly black, dark blue or other dark colour matching riders jacket for Area competitions & above. (PC hat silk is OK)

We are looking for your help on the days before the Area Dressage and Eventing, and on the days of the competition, the 8thand 9th July. Laying dressage arenas, erecting show jumps and rings, erecting tents and marquees, and many other jobs (for parents and older members, even strimming and creosoting jumps). Please email me if you can come and help.

Please continue with your good work keeping the arenas and truck parks clear of “horse poo”, even if the venue is in a field.

As many of you know, the evening rally at Eglinton Country Park was cancelled, without warning, by the Park Ranger. It was wet but they had “razor cut” the grass ready for a dog show later in the week, and certainly we would have made a mess with the ponies (ponies would have found it slippery too). We are going to have an evening escorted hack instead. If possible check your emails or texts if there is any uncertainty with the weather before rallies or outdoor training.

If we do get a wonderful summer, ensure you know how to look after your ponies, both at home and away.

If you wish to take part in the competitions, will you please get in touch with the relevant trainers or their coordinators as soon as possible, so they may be able to offer you training, and plan their teams.

Area Dressage and Eventing Competitions

This Year we are again hosting the Area Dressage and Eventing Team competitions at Auchinleck on the 8thJulyand 9th July. This is an important competition and we will have children coming from all over Scotland to try to qualify for the Pony Club Championships.

This presents our branch with an opportunity to raise much needed funds and to this end we are seeking some sponsorship.

We are able to offer XC fence sponsorship at a cost of £25 per fence. In return your family or company name will be included in the programme, announced over the PA system throughout the day and if you would like to display a banner or sign we would be delighted to oblige. If you would rather sponsor a Dressage Arena or be involved with the Show Jumping Arena this can also be offered at a cost of £25 per Dressage Arena or £100 for the whole Show Jumping Arena.

We hope that lots of the children will take this opportunity to participate in these Team competitions. We are having a BBQ on the evening of the 8thand hope that many of you will join us there.

Thank you for your support.

Notices - Reminders for all members:

·  Rallies - you MUST complete the attached attendance form on the final page and send it in at least one week before the rally, do not phone Jill after this as you will not be allowed to attend the rally. If you change your mind after completing the form please give Jill Sherrie a ring on 01292 471044 or email . This lets us arrange instructors - to avoid large groups and give you more tuition.

Other points:

·  Anyone needing directions to get to rallies please check the web-site or call Jill.

·  Please be ready at the START times for rallies – leave plenty of time to get mounted.

·  If a member is being left on his/her own will parents please ask another responsible adult to keep an eye on him/her and inform the organiser. Members must not be left on their own.

·  At rallies members aged 4 and under must be led by their parent at all times, those aged 5 must have their instructor’s permission to come off the lead rein. Older members must only walk their ponies until they reach their instructor. All members are the responsibility of their parent until they reach their instructor.

·  Remember; if the weather is very bad we may finish early.

·  Suitable dress for mounted rallies includes self-coloured shirt, polo shirt and an Eglinton Sweatshirt. There will be a special rosette for the best turned out in each ride and a cup for the member with the highest number of rosettes at the end of the year.

·  Remember you are not allowed to wear jewellery when riding for safety reasons.

·  The Barskimming and Titwood Rallies and the BBQ at Titwood have a fee that must be sent with the attendance slip. Too many members have been just turning up at rallies or only letting Jill know the day before, so we do not have enough instructors. You must have the slips in a week before the rally or you will not be allowed to take part.

Hats must be worn at all times (this includes at prize giving) when mounted with a chinstrap fastened and adjusted so as to prevent movement of the hat in the event of a fall. For Show Jumping and Mounted Games the cover, if applicable shall be dark blue, black or brown only. For Dressage – hats and hat covers must be predominately black, navy blue or a conservative dark colour that matches the rider’s jacket for Area competitions or above. The Pony Club Hat silk is also acceptable. Hats must have one of the following numbers inside 1) PAS 015:1998, EN 1384:1996, BS EN 1384:1997 (all must carry the BSI Kite mark). 2) Snell E2001 with the official Snell label and number. 3) AS/NZS 3838:1998, or AS/NZS 3838:2003. The PAS 015:1998 and the Snell E2001 meet higher impact criteria and therefore give more protection. Children under 9 should wear a lightweight hat made to comply with above requirements. All hats must be inspected and tagged before you ride at rallies and competitions. We will be tagging at rallies. For cross-country riding (including Eventing, Tetrathlon, Horse Trials, tests and training) over fences 0.80m high and above; a jockey skull cap with no fixed peak must be worn. It is also strongly recommended that a jockey skull cap is worn for cross country riding even over lower fences.

¨  Body Protectors must be worn for all Events/Rallies with Cross-Country, and we recommend they be worn at all times when riding.

v  Medical Armbands are compulsory at all PC XC competitions - these are to help improve safety at these events. If you need an armband contact Isobel Kerr or 01560 484442.

v  Eglinton Pony Club Sweatshirts in various sizes and colours. A new range of polo and rugby shirts are available so please order from Isobel Kerr or 01560 484442.

Medical armbands are also available from Isobel.
