MALTA MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD
2004
Greeting colleagues and best wishes for a successful 2004-2005 school year! It is already two years since the last Olympiad, won by St Aloysius’ College, and therefore the time has come for the next one.
Students from every school are being invited to participate in a one-day mathematics Olympiad designed to promote teamwork and positive attitudes towards achievement in mathematics. This national competition is open for students from Form 3 and Form 4, aged 13 to 14 years, and will take place in late November. Further instructions will be given when the teams are chosen, but the deadline for applications is 30th October. Prizes will be given to the first placed teams and the winning school will have the honour of holding the competition shield for two years.
The participation fee for each team is Lm 4.

MALTA’S MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD
RULES FOR PARTICIPATION
- Each school can submit one team of three students.
- Each team must be accompanied by a teacher (one for each school).
- The students must be currently enrolled in Form 3 or Form 4, and aged 13 to 14 years by 31st December 2004.
- The competition will consist of two parts
- Part 1: the teams of students will be given 45 minutes to answer as many multiple choice questions as possible without the use of a calculator.
- Part 2: the teams of students will be given 30 minutes to answer open-ended questions with the use of a calculator.
Please choose your teams carefully. If possible, provide a forum for a school play-off, and prepare the students to work as a team.
Prizes:
Medals will be given to each member of the first placed three teams (gold / silver / bronze); book prizes will be given to the first two winning teams; the winning team’s school is awarded a trophy, and has the right to hold the Olympiad shield for two years.
