Day One of the ITA Oracle Cup was a successful one for Wesleyan, with Eudice Chong ‘18 opening the tournament with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 win over Briana Hartman of Gustavus Adolphus. Later in the day, Chong paired with Victoria Yu ‘19 to defeat New York University’s Flyora Shiyanova and Coco Kulle 6-0, 6-0.

Wesleyan comes into ITA Oracle Cup, which is the fall national championships, with the top seed in both singles and doubles, as Chong is the defending NCAA singles champion and Chong and Yu and the defending doubles champs.

All participants qualified for the tournament, which is being held in Rome, Georgia, by winning their respective ITA Regional Championship. These tournaments were held throughout the previous several weeks. Chong and Yu punched their tickets with victories at the regional event at Williams College two weeks ago.

Up next will be another singles and doubles match for Wesleyan on Day Two of the event. In singles, Chong’s semifinal match will be against Claire Handa of the University of Chicago, and in doubles, Chong and Yu will take on Southwestern University’s Kate Daugherty and Esther Bowers.
