Invent Your Own Ecosystem!
You will be designing your own ecosystem and creating a booklet or brochure about it. You may work in groups of 1, 2, or 3. All work is to be double spaced, standard 12 pt. font, and 1 inch margins. Standard English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and composition rules apply. You will need to create at least one page for each of the following:
Page 1: A Cover Page. Should have the title of your ecosystem and look cool.
Page 2: The Abiotic Factors: Create a unique climatogram showing the average temperatures and rainfall for your ecosystem.
Pages 3-6 (you may use more pages if you wish): The Biotic Factors: Create unique plants and wildlife for your ecosystem. You should have two types of producers, two primary consumers, two secondary consumers, and one tertiary consumer (7 altogether). Each plant and animal will need:
a. A hand-drawn sketch with label (Genus species, plus you may include a common name as well)
b. If it’s a plant, you will need a botanical description of it, where this plant is found, and how large it grows.
c. If it’s an animal, you will need a description of its habitat, what it eats, its size, and at least one special adaptation it has that allows it to live in that environment.
Page 7: Draw a food web of your ecosystem. Label each organism.
Page 8: Create an ecological pyramid for your ecosystem (Choose either an energy pyramid or a biomass pyramid).
- This should include numerical values and units.
- This should be labeled with the trophic levels and organism names.
