“Jesus is God, Part 2: He Has Been Given Honor”: Devotional for the sermon to be delivered on February 7th

Religious liberty setbacks addressed by ERLC

Since you havein obedience to the truthpurified your souls for asincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another fromthe heart, for you have beenborn againnot of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduringword of God.For,

“All flesh is like grass,
And all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
And the flower falls off,

But the word of the Lord endures forever.”

And this isthe word which waspreached to you.

Youth News

The Youth have started a new 4 part study called ENGAGE.Teenagers live in a world that can be very hostile to their faith. As Christ-followers, students must be influencers rather than be influenced by the messages they receive from TV, Movies, and the Internet. How can students become this kind of influencer? The key is for students to be challenged to impact the culture instead of being impacted by the culture. They must learn to Engage.

We are embarking on a meaningful time of Bible study and application, learning exactly what Scripture says about how to impact the world around them in the name of Jesus Christ. Using youthministry360’s Engage Bible study resource, students will learn what the Bible says about:

• Evaluating their relationship with God and with the world around them

• Living like they are not of this world

• Living for the Lord and His Kingdom

• Engaging with the world as a light in the midst of spiritual darkness

• The cost of following Jesus and living an engaged life

THIS Wednesday Night…

…the youth are meeting at Bro. David and Mrs. Sabrena’s house (2435 Dawkins Rd., Collinsville, TX, 76233). They will be watching a movie and having a time of study and fellowship. They are also starting at 6:00 P.M. so that the youth will be dismissed at the same time that Adult Bible study is dismissed. For any questions, contact Bro. David (972-415-7198) or Mrs. Sabrena (903-815-0130).

Other Events:

  • February 10th @ 6:00pm - Youth Group meets at Texoma Christian School for free pizza and the opening night of "Revive '16" conference led by the Contemporary Christian band Sixteen Cities (Dallas-based group)
  • March 6th @ 5:30pm - Harvest America Revival led by Greg Laurie and music by Chris Tomlin, Mercy Me, LeCrae and others at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. We will leave early afternoon and try to arrive around 3:30 to ensure we get in.

Children’s Sunday School

We have services for younger children on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. If you are interested in helping out or being involved in any way, please get with David or Sabrena Keathly or Jordan Reiter!

VBS Committee

With 2016 now upon us, it is time to start thinking about Vacation Bible School. It may seem like it is still a long ways off, but it will be here before you realize it. Start praying about this important outreach event. We are also looking for any who feel led to be on the VBS Committee. If you feel led, please see Bro. Kenneth. The committee will have its first meeting this afternoon at the church at 4:00 P.M.

Youth Committee

We are looking for people who have a heart for youth to serve on our Youth Committee. This committee will organize activities and provide oversight for the youth ministry. If you are interested in serving on the Youth Committee, please see Bro. Kenneth. The Youth Committee will have its first meeting on Monday, February 8th.

Fifth Sunday Sing

Tonightat 5:00 P.M., Dixie Baptist Church will be celebrating the Lord Jesus Christ through song. This is an opportunity for you worship God through singing, Scripture recitation, poetry, and other means that worship Christ. Come be a part of this special service.

We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater;

2 Thessalonians 1:3

“God Has a Role in Life”

Psalm 139:13-17

I. Because God is the One who controls life and purpose, He is sovereign over life.

A.God is the one who gives life, forms life, and takes life.

1.God gives life.

2.God forms life.

1. God is the One who creates and weaves together every human being

2. God ordains the number of days that each and every life will live.

3.God takes life.

B.Children are a work of God, and they should be recognized as such.

(Genesis 2:7; 11:30; 20:17-18; 21:1-3; 25:20-21; 29:31; 30:22-23; Exodus 4:11; 23:26; 35:35; Deuteronomy 7:14; 32:39; Judges 13:2-3; 1 Samuel 1:4-5; 2:6; Job 10:8-12; 14:5 Psalm 40:5; 113:9; 127:3; Matthew 10:29-31 Luke 1:5-7)

II.People are sacred before they are even born.

A.God ordains the steps of each person before they are born.

Examples that demonstrate this truth:

  • Samson
  • King David
  • Isaiah
  • Jeremiah
  • John the Baptist
  • The Apostle Paul
  • Even the wicked

B.God does this in the mother’s womb.

(Numbers 12:12; Judges 13:6-7; 16:17; Job 3:3, 16; Psalm 22:9-10; 58:3; Isaiah 49:1, 5; Jeremiah 1:4-5; Luke 1:15, 43, 60; Galatians 1:15)

III.In light of what the Scriptures teach about life, God’s children need to respond.

1.Accepting that life is indeed the work of God.

2.Actively walking in the truth that life is the work of God.
