FISHING STORIES

I have had another story passed on to me From Drew Miller which included later on. This story and the one printed in last months newsletter from Robert Swan, were both to be given to my family, i.e. sons, daughters, son-in laws, and daughter-in-law, a total of 7, as stated previously, and were asked to choose their favourite, and print and sign below their preference, to decide the winner of the £30 Glasgow Angling Centre vouchers.

Unfortunately I didn’t get the opportunity to get the stories to all, but of the 7, I managed to get them to 4, who decided on their choice, and they all chose the same story, which has given the winner. The vouchers will be awarded to the winning story submitted by Robert Swan.

My thanks to both Robert and Drew for submitting their stories. Further stories are still welcome.

I will include a profile from myself next month as I am only halfway through it presently. Further profiles are still welcome.

Loch Etive 05 / 02 / 2012

Signs of improvement at Etive today, the weather were good to us a bit of sunshine and not too much rain and the fishing was not bad for once. Can I just say welcome to the club Steve Fitton, and hope you enjoy it.

And thanks to Ally Campbell who stepped in at the last moment for Billy had to call this one off. We set sail at 0900 and went into the deep water were it was not long before the fish started coming in, again no big ones. I think it’s a first that two anglers weighed in the same weight with a 2lb 7oz spurdog and that was Bob McRae and Pete Crawford. The winner of the boat went to Steve Frayling with 46 points. Over all 104 fish was caught with very few under size, let hope things keep on improving.

Shore Convenor’s Report

Shore outing Loch Etive 12th February 2012

Ten members turned up for this outing, meeting at Taynuilt Slip. The Idea was to spread out around the loch and tackle some of the “Hotspots”. In the end, all chose to fish the North side of the loch, some electing for the hike through the quarry roughly a thirty minute walk, others fishing in the quarry itself with the benefit of a shorter walk and a more accessible stance. Others chose to sleep in the car! The results were a bit of a mixed, bag the heaviest fish coming from the quarry, the best bag from around the “somewhere, elsewhere and anywhere but here marks” which when you look at it in context could be regarded as an improvement on the lets just fish the Church philosophy. 5 anglers had fish, hopefully a good learning experience for those that were prepared to dare and try something different.

Our next outing to Etive will be a similar arrangement. Marks worth a look at would be Dunstaffnage with a dropping tide and the mark under the bridge past Taynuilt. Casting day on Sunday will probably put most of those that attended in a position to fish the majority of the marks now where distance may have been a limiting factor.

Thanks go to Ross for taking the lead in the casting day which was a great success for those that attended; some may say that casting ability is not important. I would refute that. Being able to cast 200yds + is not important getting a bait, big or small out to at least around 70 yds. It is extremely important simply look at those that regularly catch fish in daylight, there is a consistent factor they can all hit 70 yds + in almost any conditions and with any size of bait or rig. So thanks go to all that attended, your attitude and desire to learn made it a worthwhile day for both Ross and I.

As mentioned at the Club meeting, considering the next shore outing is before Easter, if you can remember instead of a chocolate bar for the “choccy challenge, why not bring an Easter egg…not a monster one, just a small inexpensive one…this is optional, but it makes a wee change to the “choccy challenge” for this 1 outing.
