JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE OF POST:PR & MARKETING OFFICER, FUNDRAISING & PR TEAM

Responsible to:Director of Fundraising & PR

Responsible for:Some volunteer management

Job purpose:

  1. To raise the profile of the organisation by producing publicity and marketing materials.
  1. Working with the Director of Fundraising & PR, to develop and implement the marketing and PR Strategy.
  1. To manage and update the charity’s website
  1. To manage and update social media accounts and develop new opportunities.
  1. To liaise with service delivery colleagues to gather information about our work for publicity and marketing purposes.
  1. To work in conjunction with Fundraising Team colleagues on events and other ventures as appropriate.

MAIN TASKS:

Publicity materials

  1. Write copy, source images, develop, edit and produce publications including newsletters, annual report, accounts and other publicity materials.
  1. Produce corporate stationery including letter heads, compliment slips, business cards and other stationery as and when required and in line with Charity and Company Law.
  1. Write copy for adverts, editorials, newspapers, publications, newsletters, publicity materials and other written materials (such as email signatures) as and when required.
  1. Co-ordinate photography and filming of our work for our own use to keep the image library up to date, including liaison with service delivery colleagues. Manage images and photographic library, ensuring client permissions are valid, clear and in place
  1. Work with clients to produce visual and other publicity materials through methods such as the Photography group, take down case studies and interview clients. Ensure client permissions are valid, clear and in place.
  1. Support the BBC Radio 4 Christmas Appeal in conjunction with the Director of Fundraising & PR, service delivery colleagues, St Martin’s Charity and the BBC Appeals team by liaising with clients and service delivery colleagues to generate, identify and secure stories and features for the Appeal and surrounding publicity. Ensure client permissions are valid, clear and in place.

PR

  1. Act as main contact for outside queries from TV, media and other external press or websites. Accommodate visitors from these or similar sources (in conjunction with Director of Fundraising & PR and Director of Services) and accompany them at all times while on our premises or with clients.
  1. Ensure that all press and publicity materials meet agreed publicity guidelines and to promote the guidelines internally and externally.
  1. Develop and maintain a resource of media contacts, to include national, local and trade press or websites.
  1. Identify publicity and advertising opportunities in conjunction with the Director of Fundraising & PR. Develop these by creating advertising materials and sourcing suitable placements.

Website/New Media/New Technology/Social media

  1. Manage and develop the website, including: content generation and management, web domain registration, web hosting, search engines listings and maintaining up to date links to other websites.
  1. Manage and develop online social media and networking (such as Facebook and Twitter), including regular monitoring and content updates.
  1. Maintain an overview of the Connection at St Martin’s presence on the internet.
  1. Contribute to the development of the Fundraising and PR team and CSTM in general by identifying and researching new technology and new media opportunities.

General

  1. To contribute to the PR Strategy and annual plan
  1. To attend supervisions, team meetings and other meetings, as and when required.
  1. To attend internal and external training courses, as agreed with your line manager.
  1. To attend and support other networking events, fundraising events and organisational activities as and when required.
  1. To adhere to the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice, Charity Law, Health & Safety Law, Data Protection Act and other relevant legislative requirements.
  1. To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required.

Job descriptions are intended to give individuals clear guidance on what they are expected to achieve. However, they rarely capture all tasks and responsibilities. The Connection at St Martin’s is a small organisation and its work, by definition, is not neat. All staff are therefore expected to occasionally undertake other duties not detailed above but within the scope of the job.

Experience, skills and knowledge may have been gained in paid or unpaid work. CRITERIA
Essential
Experience working in a charity PR, marketing or similar relevant environment
Ability to write clear, engaging and creative copy
Ability to source information and stories for copy through liaison with colleagues, clients.
Experience in developing marketing / publicity activitities
Experience of managing and updating Websites using CMS (ideally Wordpress)
Experience of managing social media
Ability to use MS Office
Ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences and to communicate sensitively with vulnerable people.
Ability to use own initiative and work without supervision
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
Ability to prioritise own workload and meet competing deadlines
Understanding of and empathy for the work of The Connection at St Martin’s
Desirable
Experience in delivering successful events
Experience of using Raiser’s Edge or other databases
Flexibility to work occasional unsocial hours including evenings and weekends
