Job Title: Staff Accountant

Reports to: Finance Director

SUMMARY

The Staff Accountantis a member of the BNT team, supporting achievement of the mission: to strengthen Bridgeport’s neighborhoods. BNT develops affordable housing, manages properties, creates healthy homes, and provides comprehensive homeownership education and foreclosure prevention services. The Staff Accountantwill work with the Finance Director in all aspects of accounting and finance. This position will also work in collaboration with the Real Estate Development team to track projects from pre-development to completion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate with CompuLedger the accuracy and validity of all vendor invoices including entering them into the MIP general ledger system for payment processing.
  • Responsible for the data entry of all incoming monetary contributions including tenant payments into the Boston Post property management system and preparing bank deposits.
  • Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; verifying information and reconciling accounts.
  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and bank statements.
  • Assist Finance Director in managing annual reporting for lenders per loan agreements.
  • Assist Finance Director with the preparation for and coordination with the outside auditors.
  • Assist Housing Development team by preparing spreadsheets for budgets and cash flow schedules for real estate development projects.
  • Ensure preparation of cost certifications as required by funders.
  • Assist Housing Development team in reconciling cost summaries and prepare funding requisitions for financial closings.
  • Assist in the preparation and set up of new accounting entities as required for new development projects.
  • Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to BNT’s mission, respect for the work of our nonprofit partners, commitment to providing exemplary service to our clients.
  • Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Accounting required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, with special proficiency in Excel required.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to multi-task while meeting deadlines is essential.
  • Proven ability to work as a self-starter and team member.
  • Demonstrated strong judgment and integrity.

SCHEDULE

This is a full time position, 40 hours per week to be performed on site at BNT offices.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with ability and experience. Compensation includes medical and other fringe benefits.
