Dear Community;
As we begin a new year on the road to Emmaus, I want to pray God's blessings upon you and yours as we work together for God's renewal and spiritual growth of the church.
Isaiah 43:19 says, "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do
you not perceive it?"
As we continue to work, share and grow together, we'll want to behold God's "new thing" as he continues to work in and through us. I look forward to sharing with you the joy and wonder of what God will do through his instrument called The Walk to Emmaus. We'll take that walk together.

Greetings from the new Community Lay Director

Dear Columbus Emmaus Community,

This is my first letter to you as the 2005 Community Lay Director. I have always loved to serve. God teaches me so much as I serve. And I am now surprised and stretched to be serving the Lord in this position. Please pray for God to guide me with His wisdom and courage so that I can do this job right.

Everyone in the community can share in being surprised and stretched along with me! I’ll be praying for you! We have many new members from the 2004 Walks who have now joined the hundreds in our community living their fourth days. The Columbus Emmaus Community provides so many powerful ways to help build God’s kingdom right here in our community. Encourage each other by serving Him in some new way in 2005:

· Sponsor a teen to attend the January 15-17 Chrysalis Flight.

· Everyone could contact someone you haven’t seen come to an event lately and invite them to a gathering. The gathering on January 7th , 7:00 PM at East Columbus United Methodist Church should be a good one with the Chrysalis team dedication.

· Sponsor a Pilgrim for a Walk this April.

· Pray for, encourage and help the board members.

· Fill out a new “member info form” so that we know how you would like to serve in the community. Please don’t wait to be asked.

· And if you need ideas, forms, or more information on anything in our Emmaus community, take a look at our great new web site . Thankfully, Mike Riley has done a super job in setting this up for us!

Let’s all decide now how to bless others this year through the Walk to Emmaus in our community!

Spring Walks Coming Soon

Karen and Mark Thomas, Lay Directors for Walks #55 and #56 are hard at work finding the teams God has selected for these Walks. We all have a responsibility to be thinking of people we know who would benefit from being a pilgrim on one of these Walks. Then it is important that we follow through and sponsor someone. Let's get those applications in soon so Karen and Mark can each plan for a full walk.

The Past and the Future Emmaus

I hope with this upcoming New Year you are full of new life from our celebration of Christ’s birth and prepared to face 2005 without anticipation. What could that mean for our Church and Emmaus Community?

Jesus told us that when we concentrate on gaining life, we lose it; but when we allow our life to be lost for others and for Christ, then we gain life (Luke 17:33). The path we walk can take us many ways. Some try to match their steps with steps of others who have walked before us, some who walk beside us, and some who walk in front of us. We find models all around us, and we are each a model for someone else. We search out mentors on whose shoulders we may view the world.

We simplify our lives by recognizing Christ in others along the way. I feel blessed each time I see that Christ is the mentor in and through each of you.
