LIFE IN COLONIAL AMERICA

The colonial assemblies and the governor shared the power.

An indentured servant wanted to come to the Americas but could not pay for the trip so they would work in exchange for passage into North America. Also they were auctioned off as strong workers and sold to the highest bidder. Furthermore they were hired by wealthy landowners to work for a set number of years.

Each region of the colonies had help in their economic growth for example New England used shipping and manufacturing to boost their economy.

The Southern Colonies drew many people to settle in that region because of the large plantations and very fertile soil. Also their economy depended mainly on slavery more than New England Colonies because of the larger farms and plantation that were in the Southern Colonies. There were few town and cities in this region and plantations and farms were spread out. The plantations required many workers and enslaved Africans were used to do the work.

In the Southern Colonies there were a group of people who were plantation owners were the ones that had the most power in the colonial government.

New England Colonies held town meeting and the three main characteristics of their meeting was decisions were made, laws were voted on and people were elected to public office. .. They are known for their fishing, whaling and grading were economic activities. The Puritan laws were often very strict and religion, school and education were important. Everyone had to know how to read the bible.

In the Middle Colonies their greatest economic pull factor is the fertile farm land that is in their region also the majority of the made their living by farming and cash crops.

Enslaved Africans draw upon their past and adapt elements of their new culture to develop a distinct African American culture they relied on strong African family ties and oral tradition. Enslaved and free Africans were alike in the Colonial because both had no choice over whether or not their children were sold
