can ye escape the damnation of hell?
GOLDEN TEXT:
Psalms 9:17 - The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
The wicked shall be turned into hell, as captives in a prison, even all the nations that forget God. There are nations full of those that have forgotten God, multitudes that live without Him and many mighty nations that never regard Him nor desire Knowledge of His ways. Hell will, at last, be their portion, a state of everlasting misery and torment and a pit of destruction, in which they and all their comforts will be forever lost and buried. They will be turned into hell, like sheep into the slaughterhouse. All unrepentant sinners will be punished in God’s sight and shown no Mercy. Security in numbers won’t ring true: neither will it bring comfort. No mortal man will prevail against the Kingdom of the Almighty and Immortal God. Oh Lord I pray thee, frighten them: Put them in fear, Lord, strike terror upon them and make them afraid of thy judgments.
Proverbs 15:24 - The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
The way of Wisdom and Holiness leads to Eternal Life for the Soul. Be wise and live for it is the only way to escape eternal misery. It is to depart from hell beneath, the snares and pain of hell and everlasting destruction. A wise man will set his affections on things above for there are his treasures out of the reach of enemies and above the changes of this lower world.
Proverbs 27:20 - Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
Hell is not clogged with the multitude of dead bodies. Hell has plenty room for the damned. Just as Adam and Eve were not satisfied with all the trees of Eden, they had to meddle with the forbidden tree, men labour for that which surfeits, but it satisfies not.
Isaiah 5:14 - Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.
So many are there, or headed that way that hell had to be enlarged. It’s the place of the damned. There those are tormented who made a god of their belly. The world and the flesh are the two great enemies that we are in danger of being overpowered by; yet we are in no danger if we do not ourselves yield to them.
Matthew 16:18 - And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Who do you say the Lord Jesus is? Is he precious to you? Is he in your eyes as the chief of ten thousand? Is he the Beloved of your Soul? Peter answered, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” God has had a Church in the world from the beginning, and it was built upon the rock of the promised Seed. The devil has employed to pervert it to his purpose. But all forces opposed to Christ and His kingdom have no power over the Church of God.
Matthew 23:33 - Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
For the wicked there will be no escape from judgment or hell. Fear His authority, stand in awe of His majesty and trust in Him.
Luke 16:23 - And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
One died in his full strength, and another in the bitterness of his Soul. Death favors no one. Saints die, that they may bring their sorrows to an end, and enter upon their joys. It concerns both to be prepared for death, for death waits for them both.
Ask, and it shall be given you; but, if you let slip this accepted time, you may ask, and it shall not be given. The fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake, which burneth with fire and brimstone where their worms never die and the fire is not quenched. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. It is the Soul that is in torment and there will be nothing to abate your torment.
