  • HOMEWORK: Study for the Literature Exam which will be on Wednesday, May 17th. Please use your study guides and composition notebook to assist you with the information that will be covered. Don’t forget to study the many papers that I had you write the word “SAVE” on the top of the page.

Then I asked them to write down any negative consequences that they could think of with those three wishes.
  • I showed them a PowerPoint presentation on internal and external conflict.
  • We worked workbook page 78 of the “Reading Kit” together and I assigned workbook page 79 entitled “Literary Analysis: Conflict and Resolution”.

  • We learned about idioms and we visited this website to learn more about idioms:
  • I read page 290 and 291 aloud with the class and we discussed the background knowledge necessary to comprehend the stories “Seventh Grade” by Gary Soto and “Melting Pot” by Anna Quindlen..
  • I gave the students ditto page 106 and explained how to fill in the chart on this page. I told the children that they would need to find three idioms within each story and complete the chart. I also let the students know that there were several idioms within the story and they only needed to locate three of them.
  • The students were then told to reading the story. The story “Seventh Grade” which can be found on pages 290-295 of the text and the story “Melting Pot” can be found on pages 296-300 of the text.
  • I assigned workbook page 101 and 102 entitled “Vocabulary Warm-up: Word List” and “Vocabulary Warm-up Exercises.”
  • We will discuss the stories tomorrow as a class.
