Job title:Marketing and Communications Manager

Responsible to:The Chief Executive

Responsible for:Volunteers Manager, Training Officer

Business Development Officer

Hours:22.5 (3 days) per week

Salary:NJC Scale Point 36-38

£30,011 - £31,754 (pro rata)

Place of work:The Carers’ Support Centre,Gill Avenue, Fishponds, Bristol

Aims of the post

To:

  • be responsible for taking the lead in the development and implementation of the marketing and communications strategy for the Carers’ Support Centre and its trading subsidiary
  • manage the Volunteers Manager, Training Officer and the Business Development Officer
  • manage marketing and communications activities for both organisations
  • be a member of the Senior Management team and actively participate in the overall management and development of the organisation.

Main tasks

1.Marketing and communications

1.1Working with the Business Development Officer, Senior Management Teamand other staff as necessary, to plan marketing and communications activities.

1.2In conjunction with the Chief Executive, Trustees and the senior management team, to develop a marketing and communication strategy for the Carers’ Support Centre.

1.3Working with the Business Development Officer to ensure that services are strategically developed according to the marketing gap/needs of carers and that these activities relate back to the mission statement and business plan of the whole organisation.

1.4To be responsible for ensuring that theCarers’ Support Centre website is maintained, developed and updated.

1.5To be responsible for the production and distribution of the Carers’ Support Centre newsletter, liaising with other staff as required.

1.6To provide marketing support for Carers’ Holidays and other income generation activities as they develop

1.7To be the first point of contact for any media enquiries, and to be responsible for writing press releases and liaising with the media regarding possible news stories and features.

1.8To oversee the production, printing and distribution of promotional materials.

1.9Working with the Business Development Officer, to evaluate all marketing and communications activities and take action as necessary.

1.10To develop and maintain relationships with external partners and suppliers as appropriate.

1.11Ensure that developments in IT are used to their maximum potential for example social media include, Twitter and Facebook

1.12To work as a member of the Senior Management Team on the strategic development plans for the Charity

2.General

2.1To ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the Carers’ Support Centre’s policies and procedures.

2.2As a member of the Senior Management Team to deputise for the Chief Executive when required andundertake any other duties commensurate with the grading of the post, as agreed with the CE.

Person specification

ESSENTIAL

Education

  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience/knowledge

  • At least one year’s experience of working in marketing and communications
  • Experience of handling media enquiries
  • Proven staff management experience and demonstrable experience of providing support and supervision enabling staff to develop their skills and competence
  • Experience of developing and implementing strategies, projects and services
  • Ability to produce marketing materials, press releases and/or newsletters
  • Experience of managing marketing campaigns

Skills

  • Excellent IT skills, including the use of social media and standard Microsoft packages including databases
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Experience of the promotion, development and maintenance of a charity and or corporate websites
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Strong leadership skills
