The Butler County Sheriff’s Office operates the Detention Facility located at 701 S. Stone Road, El Dorado, Kansas 67042. The facility is open 24 hours a day seven days a week, however not all services are available all hours. The Butler County Detention Facility holds only adult or adjudicated persons.

Bail Bondsman

If a person held in the facility requires a bail bondsman to post bond, it is the responsibility of the inmate or their family or friends to select the person or company to write the bond. Detention staff are not allowed to recommend any person or company.

Cash Bonds

Cash bonds are accepted for the full amount of the bond. Certified cashier’s checks and money orders are accepted for the full amount of the bond. The receipt will be given to the inmate along with a copy of the cash bond.

Visitation

Video visitation is utilized for all family/friend visitations and is available to be accessed on-site or off-site during the listed scheduled facility visitation hours. All visits must be submitted 24 hrs. in advance for approval by facility staff.

On-site video visits are conducted from any facility lobby kiosks during the facility on-site visitation hours. To ensure all inmates have the opportunity to receive free onsite family/friend visits, all on-site visits are limited to20 minutes per visit and one (1) visit per inmate daily w/ a limit of three (3) visits per inmate weekly.

On-site video visitation is available Monday – Friday from 8:15 am. to 10:45 am. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Off-site visits are conducted from any off-site computer during the facility off-site visitation hours for a nominal fee. Off-site visits are unlimited and can be conducted in 20 min. or 40 min. increments. Off-site video visitation is available Sunday – Saturday from 8:15 am. to 10:45 am., 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 pm. – 8:30 pm.

Professional visitation, such as attorney’s, parole, probation and other law enforcement officials are available Monday – Friday 8:00 am. – 8:30 pm. excluding scheduled meal times or as scheduled.

All visitors must be properly attired at all times.NUDITY, tight fitting or provocative clothing is prohibited.

Inmate Money Accounts

Each inmate entering the Butler County Detention facility will have an account set for deposit of all funds. The account will be made available to the inmate for purchase of available items and services. Money canonly be deposited onan inmate’s account by utilizing the kiosk located in the Detention facility lobby, toll free phone deposits @ 1-866-345-1884 or internet deposits @

Inmate Correspondence

Inmates receive mail daily except for weekends and holidays that fall on weekdays. Inmates are not limited in the amount of mail they can receive or mail out. Inmates may not receive packages of any kind. Postcards and envelopes may be utilized for all non-privileged correspondence both entering and exiting the facility.Postcards must be no larger than 5” X 7”. All mail shall identify the mail recipient and sender by full first and last name.

All mail may be checked for contraband and/or unauthorized items. All mail containing unauthorized items will be resealed and returned to sender.

Newspaper and magazine subscriptions mailed directly from the publisher areauthorized.

Photographs cannot depict alcohol, weapons, gang activity, drug activity, and nudity, be pornographic or be sexually suggestive. Photographs will be no larger than 4” X 6”.

Money orders will no longer be accepted through the mail and will be returned to sender.

Telephone Calls

All out-going telephone calls will be made utilizing an inmate purchased phone card, inmate debit account orcollect. A supervisor at the facility will take emergency incoming telephone calls for inmates. If an emergency is determined to exist, the inmate will be informed to return the telephone call to the caller. Inmates cannot receive outside phone calls, nor can you leave messages.

Release of Property

Personal property will only be released once. The inmate must contact the pod deputy and a form will be completed. The person picking up the property must have a picture ID. It is the inmate’s decision if and to whom his/her property will be released. Personal property of inmates that are being released to another agency will be released to the person listed on the property release form. Property will only be held for 30 days after which time it will be destroyed.
