THANKS TO...

Firstly, many thanks to The Bull public house at Streatley and www.awcycles.co.uk for the financial assistance given to us. I hope you will consider returning to this great venue in the future, or purchasing equipment from the cycle shop.

Thanks also to the Reading CC volunteers who assisted me on the day, thus ensuring the event ran smoothly. You all did a great job and I could not have asked for more.

Thanks to the timekeepers (including Mick Fountain who helped tidy up the result board with a printed copy), and to Guy Swarbrick for agreeing to come out and photograph the riders. I am just waiting to hear back from him as to where they can be viewed. I will let all riders know as soon as I do.

RACE ROUND-UP

A few big changes to the event this year, which I hope you liked. Firstly, we added a second stage to the race. Personally, I liked the new format, as the climbs give variety; the first is longer and more gradual whilst the second, as we know, is tough.

Secondly, we had a change of HQ this year, with The Bull public house offering to host the event. Many thanks to John, Michelle and their team for making us feel so welcome and for the main prize offered.

Now onto the actual racing. To all riders, thank you for entering and making this event a success. The racing was extremely close, and I have to admit that on the day I didn’t really appreciate just how close until I got home, had recovered from my own racing efforts, and was reviewing the result board. Less than 1 second split 1st and 2nd places, with only 19 seconds covering 1st to 6th place overall. That’s pretty exciting racing, you have to admit.

Hard luck story of the day was from Andrew Sykes (no. 4) with his exploding rear mech on the toughest part of Streatley. Thankfully he found a soft landing on the verge next to the road.

That’s it folks! I look forward to welcoming you all back next year to fight it out for the 2015 event bragging rights, if you can just find those few extra seconds J

Stewart.
