SUBJECT: Certified Employees – Intent Forms Regarding Employment

for School Year 2011-2012

Purpose

The purpose of this memo is to communicate the certified employee intent process for school year 2011-2012.

Background

Annually, we determine the intentions for continued employment of certified employees for the next school year. Principals, division heads and Human Resources use the data for recruitment planning. All certified personnel, except local school administrators and members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet, should be included in this process. The Leadership Management Office within Human Resources coordinates a separate process for both of these groups.

Action Requested

Please:

1.  Distribute the attached form, Intent Regarding Employment for School Year 2011-2012, to all certified employees (except local school administrators and members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet). These forms are to be completed and returned to you by Wednesday, January 12, 2011.

2.  Complete and fax the attached Summary Report – Intent of Certified Employees to
(678) 594-8580 by Tuesday, January 18, 2011. You will keep the individual forms at your school. We only need the Summary Report form.

SUBJECT: INTENT REGARDING EMPLOYMENT FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2011-2012

Background

As we begin planning for the 2011-2012 school year, it is important for us to know your intent regarding continued employment with the Cobb County School District.

Human Resources will prepare and your principal/division head will deliver contracts for school year 2011-2012 in March. Your principal/division head will accept resignations through June 1, 2011. After that date, you will be released from your contract only in an emergency situation or in the event of a promotion.

Please check the one response that most accurately reflects your plans for the upcoming school year. Return this form to your principal/division head by Wednesday, January 12, 2011.

I am on limited contract (hired after Monday, July 26, 2010) and want to be considered for continued employment in the district for school year 2011-2012.

It is essential that you notify the Human Resources Benefits Department of your intentions to retire; contact Belinda Goodman-Ayewoh, Retirement Specialist at: . Considering Retirement?Friendly reminder that recently the May 31, 2011and June 1, 2011 Furlough Days were eliminated for FY2011 and that these two dates are now compensated work days for teachers and many other school-based employees. Please be aware thatthe date you select to retire may mean the difference between being eligible to receive aTRS Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) in 6 months or being eligible to receive the COLA in 1 year!!!If you select a retirement date of June 1, your last day of active employment must be no later than May 31, and yourfirst COLA eligibility will be January 1, 2011 (6 months).If you select a retirement date of July 1, your last day of active employment must be no later than June 30, and yourfirst COLA eligibility will be July 1, 2012 (12 months).
