Storyteller 1, 2, and 3 / These characters are important for setting up the world and moving the story forward. They need natural stage presence and a big and clear singing voice.

Shrek / Shrek is a big, scary ogre who also has a big heart. Shrek must have a solid singing voice as well as a strong comedian.
Vocal audition: “Big Bright, Beautiful World”
Fiona / Fiona is more than just your fairytale princess. She is an audacious young girl with a wonderful sense of humor, as well as manners akin to those of a teenage boy. Fiona needs to be able to do it all; act, sing, and dance.
Vocal audition: “I Know It’s Today”
Young Fiona and Teen Fiona / These are two separate girls who are younger versions of Fiona who must have solid singing voices.

Lord Farquaad / A very short man with gargantuan ambition. This is a role for a good singer but most importantly, a strong comedian who isn’t afraid of making bold choices and looking silly.
Vocal audition: “What’s Up, Duloc? (Part 1)”
Donkey / A brash, loud, fast-talking animal with no concept of “quiet time.” This is a role for an experienced performer who can sing well and has a whole lot of presence and character.
Vocal audition: “Travel Song”
Dragon / This is a great breakout role for a young girl with a lot of soul and spunk. She is a ferocious dragon but finds surprising love for Donkey.
Vocal audition: “Forever”
Mama Ogre and Papa Ogre / These are great roles for a dynamic duo that can kick off the show with a lot of energy and presence. Must be good singers!
Vocal audition: “Big Bright Beautiful World”
Little Ogre / A younger character with no lines, but very important for telling the story. This character will join the chorus after the opening scene.
Pinocchio / A wooden boy who cannot tella lie without being belied by his growing nose. This performer must have a lot of personality and a solid voice.
Vocal audition: “Story Of My Life”
Pig 1, Pig 2, and Pig 3 / These are the classic three little pigs with a German twist. These pigs must be fun and dynamic on stage.
Vocal audition: “Story Of My Life”
Ugly Duckling / A character who may be bitter about her appearance, but he does find camaraderie among his fellow fairy tale outcasts. A fun comedic role for a new performer.
Vocal audition: “Story Of My Life”
Mama Bear, Papa Bear, and Baby Bear / Great cameo roles for young performers. These three make a complimentary trio and must be comfortable singing on stage.
Vocal audition: “Freaky Flag”
Wicked Witch / This witch must have lots of personality and a strong voice.
Vocal audition: “Story Of My Life”
Gingy / The Gingerbread man! Great new performer role. Some lines. Must be able to do funny voices.
Duloc Performers / The welcoming committee for the land of Duloc. Must be a strong dancer and singer.
Knights / Lord Farquaad’s faithful servants. Must be strong actors. Some lines and important comedic moments.
