Introduction

The purpose of this book is to motivate you to study the book of Psalms. A psalm is a sacred song or hymn. The book of Psalms were mostly written by King David of Israel. The first mention of a psalm in the bible is I Ch. 16:1-7. King David delivered a psalm to the people after the ark of the Lord was brought back to Jerusalem for the first time. All Christian music has a godly beat along with godly words(go to and download, New Testament Church Music). Good Christian music moves your spirit to serve and praise the Lord and not your flesh to sin, etc..

The average Christian is ignorant of the many truths found in the book of Psalms. For the Bible believing Christian, every book in the Bible is important and loaded with truths and everyday applications(II Tim. 2:15, 3:16-17).

Psalms 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

For a person to be blessed(made holy or consecrated), they must not walk in the counsel(advise) of the ungodly, stand(an attitude toward a particular issue or a position taken in an argument) in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful(feeling or expressing contempt or derision).

Everyday we hear advice from people whether it be from personal contact or from something we read, listen to, and/or watch, etc.. Not everything you hear is godly advice. If you want to be blessed, don’t act on ungodly counsel or advice. Just because sin is promoted, popular and accepted doesn’t make it right(Ex. 23:2). For more information on how to act godly and what is godly counsel,

download, Separation, Part I & II and Obedience, Part I & II at

Standing in the way of sinners means you are standing with the issues with them(E.g. Sinful stances are anti-Christian, anti-bible, pro evolution, gay marriage, legal marijuana, open borders, government deficit spending, anti-police and anti law and order, pro-abortion, global warming, etc.). Christians stand for godliness and the issues of our day that promote godliness. We don't stand with atheists,

humanists, worldly entertainers, but we stand with God and His word(Ps. 138:2, II Tim. 3:16-17).

Sitting in the seat of the scornful means having contempt for the things of righteousness and good.

You scorn truth(e.g. The left wing media in the U.S., 2017, CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, etc.. These networks are known for promoting fake news stories(CNN & MSNBC are the worst in my opinion).

Scorners lie about the facts and the applications thereof. They try to manipulate facts to get their

political and/or social view accepted and/or promoted. Christians don't scorn the truth, but uphold it

(II Tim. 3:16-17, Pr. 14:34).

Psalms 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

A person who is blessed delights(great pleasure) in the law of the LORD and he meditates(think deeply or carefully about) on it day and night. For starters a person who is blessed is saved

(II Cor. 6:2). A lost person can't be blessed by God because he is not His son(Jo. 1:12). Apart from the blessings of the world that can be accessed by anyone in the flesh(Matt. 5:45), he can't be blessed

spiritually(I Cor. 2:14) nor receive the blessings that are conditioned on obedience(Matt. 6:33, Ps. 37:4, II Cor. 5:10). For more information on how to be blessed, download, How to be Blessed, Part I & II at

To be blessed of God you must delight yourself in the Bible and think about it all the time. The problem is that most Christians think about sports, sex, personal problems, etc. most of the time rather than on the law of the Lord. When you think about God and the Bible all the time you will eventually find out God’s will for your life, learn what is right and wrong and do wants God wants you to do. When you are in tune with your creator you will be blessed in all of your circumstances. When you observe or put in practice on a daily basis what God teaches you then your life will be successful and prosperous.

Psalms 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

A tree planted by the river is stable, healthy, fruitful(prosperous), beautiful(has a testimony),

durable(through bad weather), predictable(always bears fruit in season), etc.. When you practice

habitually what God says it will bring spiritually the same results that a tree planted by the river will bring(Gal. 6:9, see comments there). If we do what is right(read the Bible every day, pray, witness about salvation, give time, money, and energy to the New Testament church, practice holiness, etc.), eventually over time we will get the spiritual victory. If you want victory over worrying and bad habits as well as direction and stability in your life, then do what God says. Note that someone who plants a tree and afterward takes care of it over time it can be prosperous is patient(Is. 40:31). Christians should be patient in the Lord and allow Him to work in your life. The end result will be a great blessing, etc..

Psalms 1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

The chaff(grain husk) is the worthless part of the wheat that is separated from the seed after the harvest. When a Christian lives ungodly he is worthless to God. Ungodliness produces instability to the Christian mentally, physically, financially and spiritually. Note that the winds of the world blow around the chaff at will, yet the tree by the river(Eph. 5:26, see comments there) is unmovable. The life of a Christian is like building a good house. The foundation is the bible and everything you do afterward builds on that foundation(Eph. 2:10, Is. 28:9-10, see comments there). Beware of the foundation of man-made religion or philosophy not found in the Bible. It will eventually cause destruction in your life(Matt. 7:24-27).

Psalms 1:5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

When a Christian lives godly, he will survive and/or thrive in the face of trouble. His life and testimony will withstand the judgment of Godin this life and the life to come(I Cor. 3:12-15, see comments there). The Christian is to stand with the Lord so he will be able to stand in the judgment or persecution thereof(Eph. 6:10-11, see comments there).

Health problems, financial problems and persecutions may come your way because of the devil. If you have something real in the Lord you will be unmovable. God allows the devil to give you a hard time to make you stronger. Competition was designed to make a person better and to expose his weaknesses. When God exposes the weaknesses you need to make the appropriate adjustments in your spiritual life so you can be more blessed.

The Lord knows when you are doing right and when you are doing wrong. In the end it will always pay to do right and not wrong(II Cor. 5:10, see comments there). God sometimes delays his judgment on sin in this life to see if you really believe what he says.

Psalms 1:6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

One test of the righteous is that he will helpthe poor or those who have a real need physically and spiritually(Ps. 41:1-2). This would include the children in need as well as adults who have a need and are trying to live godly. Beware of helping moochers, lazy people, people who spend all their money on smoking, drinking and/or drugs. Christians are not the social and welfare workers of the world that give people money and help whenever they demand it for any reason. Christians are only obligated to give as the Lord leads. If there is any doubt about someone or some cause, the Christian should abstain in his assistance. E.g. A New Testament church can have a work relief program for all those in need and want to work(II Th. 3:10, see comments there). New testament churches have bus ministry, junior church and a neighborhood Bible club ministry etc. to reach out to the kids. However, they need to implement these ministries based on available workers and finances. Don’t bite off more than you can spiritually chew or your ministry will turn into a curse and not a blessing. This is why I give to certain ministries which are geared to help those with real physical and spiritual needs and are unable to pay back.

Some of the blessings of the Lord for doing right are being having your needs met, getting the desires of your heart, you have a successful family and secular job performance, you will have extra to be able to give to others and everyone will be glad to see you because of the blessings you bring

(Deut. 28:2-6). Furthermore, you will have victory over your enemies and trials in life and you will be known for holy living for God(Eut. 28:7, 9). By the way, God requires Christians to be holy or to keep the commandments of God in the power of the Holy Ghost, which is not legalism(I Pet. 1:15-16, 22, see comments there). By the way, Christians need to defend good laws and cast down bad ones by voting, praying and peacefully petitioning and protesting so God can bless our nation(Pr. 14:34).

On the flips side, when you live ungodly in a certain area of your life you will always have trouble in that area in your life until you fix the problem(II Ch. 16:9). The lost person doesn’t have the protection of God(Jo. 10:10) or the wisdom of God(I cor. 2:14). He needs to get saved first. Otherwise, his life could fall apart because of sin(Jam. 1:14-15). By the way, if you die lost and not saved, you will not enjoy the blessings in heaven and will end up in hell and then the lake of fire(Rev. 20:15, Mark 9:43-48). God plans to regenerate the world at his second coming(Matt. 19:28). He will make a new heaven and earth after the millennium(Rev. 21:). Anything that the lost person ever did in this life will be burnt up and forgotten. The lost person will be tormented for eternity, etc..

Psalms 2:1-5 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

:3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.

:5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

The heathen or lost person rages(violent, uncontrollable anger) against the things of God. They thoughts of people are usually vain or useless to God(II Cor. 10:5, see comments there). The kings and rulers of the earth or the leaders of the world set themselves against the things and positions of God and His word(II Tim. 3:16-17, see comments there) as well as the anointed of the Lord(prophets and priests, I Pet. 2:9, Rev. 19:10, see comments there).

The lost and carnal nations of the world want to live after the flesh without restriction to morals and spiritual laws(Ps. 9:17, Rom. 8:6, see comments there). Bands(Job 38:31) and cords are for binding

(Ps. 118:27). The word of God keeps the saved person from danger, curses, judgments, etc.. However, the lost and carnal person only sees rules that restrict them from doing there own fleshly desires. When they have their own way and will it eventually leads to destruction(Jam. 1:14-15, Jo. 10:10). Hence, the Lord in heaven who sits on the mercy seat in the temple(Rev. 15:, see comments there) laughs at the ignorance, stubbornness and rebellion of man. The Lord's attitude towards the lost and carnal is

derision or to have contemptuous ridicule or mockery for(I Pet. 1:15-16, see comments there).

Vex means to make a person feel annoyed, frustrated, or worried, especially with trivial matters. On the flip side, the Christian can give all his worries to the Lord(I Pet. 5:7, Ph. 4:6-7, see comments there). Sin is an irritant and can make the simple life difficult(Pr. 13:15). E.g. lung cancer starts with the first puff of a cigarette, sclerosis of the liver starts with the first social drink of alcohol, etc.. That along with not having God's favor to get the victory over your problem nor an effective solution can turn your life into a nightmare in a hurry.

Christian, there are so many ways a life can fall apart. You will do enough wrong trying to do right. Live for God(Rom. 12:1-2) and confess your sins when you fail(I Jo. 1:9). We want God's favor for the right reasons. It pays to serve the Lord.

Psalms 2:6-12 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

:10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

:11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

In the millennial reign of Christ, Jesus will rule for 1000 years(Is. 2:2-4, Rev. 20:, see comments there). He will literally sit on the mercy seat in the millennial temple in Jerusalem on mount Zion. Currently, the Godhead(I Jo. 5:7) sits on the mercy seat in mount Sion(Heb. 12:22, see comments there) in heaven.

In the Old Testament, Jesus appeared as an angel of the Lord, but took on human form(I Tim. 3:16, see comments there) by the conception of the Holy Ghost through Mary(Lu. 1:31-35). Jesus was born of the line of David(Lu. 3:23-31) and hence would return in His glorified body at the end of the tribulation period to take over the world(Rev. 19:11-21, see comments there). In the millennium, Jesus will inherit the world or the uttermost parts of the earth for His possession as well as rule over everyone whether saved or lost. Remember that only saved people enter the millennium(Matt. 25:31-46, 24:31). However their offspring has a sin nature and they need to choose the Lord for salvation like every other saved person had(Rom. 10:10, 13, see comments there). Seeing Jesus in person doesn’t imply someone will believe in Him(they saw Jesus at His first coming and rejected Him).

Jesus will reign over the world for 1000 years with a rod of iron. He will crush the opposition like someone breaking a potter’s vessel(Zech. 13:2-3, 14:16-19, see comments there). There will be no spiritual or physical opposition to the Lord that can survive and stand. Remember that all the saved from Adam to the beginning of the tribulation plus the martyred tribulations saints and 144,000 will have eternal bodies. They will serve in the worldwide government of Jesus and reign with Him
