The BNB Governor Ivan Iskrov accepted an
invitation for membership in theBretton Woods Committee

The Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank Ivan Iskrov accepted an invitation for membership in theBretton Woods Committee. Membership in the Committee, which is a nonpartisan network of prominent global citizens, aimed at demonstrating the value of international economic cooperation and fostering strong, effective Bretton Woods institutions as forces for global well-being, is subject to an explicit invitation.Among the institutions represented on the Committee are the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, World Trade Organization, regional development banks and institutions providing financial and technical assistance with regional focus. The Bretton Woods Committee determines as its most valuable asset its members: elected leaders at the top of the business, academic, public and non-government sectors, philanthropists and former presidents and statesmen. Jimmy Carter, US President (1977–1981) and George H.W. Bush, US President (1981–1989) are Honorary Co-Chairs of the Committee.

The Bretton Woods Committee champions the constructive dialogue between financial institutions, thus facilitating their efforts to fight poverty and unemployment and their work to ensure sustainable economic growth and financial stability.

As its member, Ivan Iskrov will attend the Bretton Woods Committee’s International Council Meeting. As part of this event renowned global financial experts and state leaders meet to provide, by sharing experience and constructive critique,support for the international financial institutions. During the meeting they coordinate and discuss the implementation of reforms to spur global economic growth and improve financial stability. The Bretton Woods Committee’s International Council was created in 2000 on the premise that work for international financial stability and market liberalization is to be performed in close working partnership between the private sector and the international financial institutions.

Among the guest lecturers at this year’s meeting will be Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the IMF, Jean-Claude Trichet, ECB President (2003–2011), Dan Tarullo, member of the Board of Governors of the US Federal Reserve System.

Within his visit to Washington, the BNB Governor Ivan Iskrov, who is also the Governor for Bulgaria at the IMF,and BNB Deputy Governor Kalin Hristov will attend as members of the Bulgarian delegation, led by the Minister of Finance Rumen Porozhanov, the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG)and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to take place from 10 to 12 October in Washington DC, USA.
