“The Blessing of Trusting God!”
Jeremiah 17:7-8
INTRO. God has given to all who will believe and receive Him the greatest gift
that could ever be given. That gift is the gift of His only begotten
Son, Jesus Christ. Christ now lives and empowers each one of us who
by faith have accepted Him. 2 Corinthians 5:17 promises, "Therefore
if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed
away; behold, all things are become new."
There is a blessedness in having Christ as our personal Savior. In our
text Jeremiah declares, "Blessed is the man that trusteth in the
LORD..." I want to title the message tonight, "The Blessing of Trusting
God!" We have a Blessed Peace because we have trusted in the
LORD. We feel His Blessed Presence because we have trusted in the
LORD. And we have His Blessed Power available to us because we
have trusted in the LORD.
The word "trust" occurs 152 times in the O.T. There are several
different Hebrew words which are the equivalent of our word “trust".
Of these some of the meanings are: To take refuge upon, to lean upon,
to roll upon, and to stay upon. Each of these definitions are true of
the Trust we have in the LORD!
We can take refuge upon Him--He is "The Shelter in The Storm." We
can lean upon Him-"Leaning on the Everlasting Arms." We can roll our
cares and burdens upon Him--"Take Your Burdens to the Lord And
Leave Them There." And finally, We can stay upon Him--"My Hope Is
Built On Nothing Less than Jesus Christ And His Righteousness!"
Jeremiah said, "Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD..." Why
Blessed? Well, he goes on to say, "Whose Hope the LORD is." The only
true and blessed hope is found in the LORD, and NOWHERE ELSE!
I want you to notice with me tonight 3 great and precious blessings we
have in the LORD.
NOTICE THE BLESSING OF:
(1) The Great Hope We Have In the LORD
Text: Jeremiah 17:7—“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the
LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.”
Romans 5:5
*We Have Hope Of:
- Eternal life (Titus 3:4-7).
- Eternal Home (John 14:1-3).
- Eternal Fellowship (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17).
(2) The Great Strength We have In The LORD
Text:Jeremiah 17:8a—“For he shall be as a tree planted by the
waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river,
and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall
be green; and shall not be careful in the year of
drought.”
Nehemiah 8:1O—“The Joy of the LORD is your strength."
Psalms 31:24
*Once I was weak, helpless and hopeless, "but God commendeth His Love
toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans
5:8)
*Now I Have:
- HIS PRESENCE (Hebrews 13:5).
- HIS POWER (1 Timothy 1:7).
- HIS PROMISE (Isaiah 40:31).
(3) The Great Growth We Can Experience In The LORD
Text:Jeremiah 17:8b—“…Neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”
2 Peter 3:18
- GROWING BY STUDY OF HIS WORD (2 Timothy 2:15).
- GROWING BY SHARINGOURINTERESTS WITH HIM (Fellowship) (John 15:4).
- GROWING BY CONFESSING OUR SINS (John 15:2; 1 John 1:9).
- GROWING BY FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD’S PEOPLE (Hebrews 10:25).
*But we must realize all this is done with Christ because Christ says in
John 15:5 says, "I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in
me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye
can do nothing."
CLOSING:Christian, Aren't you glad you put your trust in the LORD Jesus?
Isn't it a joy to be a child of God? I ask you Christian friend, "Are you living a life worthy of His calling?"
David in Psalms 116:12 asks, "What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?" Have you taken time to ask yourself that question lately? Are you carrying it out in your daily life? If not, come get right with God tonight! Nothing pleases the heart of God more than to see His Children living faithful to Him!
