OMEL MERCADOS IS CARRYING OUT THE SIXTEENTH CESUR AUCTION FOR THE PURCHASE OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY BY LAST RESORT RETAILERS AIMED AT THE SUPPLY OF SPANISH LAST RESORT CONSUMERS, FOR THE FOURTH QUARTER OF 2011.
The Base-load product was awarded at a closing price of 57.99 €/MWh, and the Peak-load product was awarded at a closing price of 63.00 €/MWh.
The total amount of energy auctioned for the fourth quarter of 2011 was awarded in its entirety to 25 sellers.
The auction held on September 27 offered simultaneously for the fourth quarter of 2011, a Base-load product for three months (three-month base product) (3,800 MW) consisting in the price difference between the adjudication price of the product in the auction and the day ahead hourly price managed by OMEL(OMIE) for all the hours included in the time horizon auctioned, and a Peak-load product for three months (three-month peak product) (458 MW) consisting in the price difference between the adjudication price of the product in the auction and the day ahead hourly price managed by OMEL(OMIE) for all hours between 8:00 and 20:00 CET, of every calendar day except Saturdays and Sundays during the fourth quarter of 2011.

The amounts of energy were purchased by the five Last Resort Retailers companies, as indicated by the Resolution of 20 September 2011 of the State Secretariat for Energy of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade.
The auction was held using OMEL(OMIE)’s auction software system by Internet. A descending clock auction procedure was used, whereby starting with given starting prices (different for each product), these were progressively knocked down in successive rounds of bidding until a balance was struck between supply and demand for each product.
