Name of Grant : Spreading Inclusion

Purpose and Eligibility: To benefit a K-12 educator interested in promoting further inclusive activities for his/her classroom. This grant may be used to purchase classroom supplies to enhance inclusion of students during classroom activities, to purchase outside presentations to enhance inclusion within the classroom, or for professional development in the area of inclusive education.

Candidate should have at least 1 year of continuous service as an educator.

Background: The Arc of Greater Plymouth was founded in 1966 as a private, non-profit organization committed to providing creative, flexible, and diversified supports for people with developmental/intellectual disabilities and their families. The Arc has grown into a dynamic human services organization which provides services and supports to over 1,000 families in southeastern Massachusetts.

The guiding principles that guide The Arc’s mission are that individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities are people first, and that they are to be respected, treated with dignity, and valued for who they are and what they can accomplish.

Application Packet:

  1. Complete entry form
  2. A letter or short essay written by the candidate that addresses the following topics:
  3. Describe your experience including grade level, subject area(s),years of teaching.
  4. Discuss why you think inclusion of students with disabilities promotes better outcomes.
  5. Describe how you plan to use the grant funds. If you plan to purchase classroom supplies, or a presentation or artistic performance, discuss how it will be used in the classroom and how this activity will promote inclusion. If you plan to use the funds to create more community based activities, describe how this activity will promote student growth. If you plan to use the funds for professional development, describe the workshop, course, conference or event you plan to attend and describe how you plan to use and share what you have learned.

Deadline: Submit completed application packet to The Arc by January 15th.
