SCHOOL OF X
Application for a resit/sitscheduled in the summer vacation assessment period to be scheduled in an earlier assessment period (not a first resit)
The School Director of Student Experience (DoSE) may exceptionally consider an applicationfrom a student who wishes to take an assessment scheduled in the summer vacation assessment period during an earlier assessment period (A1 or A2).
The DoSE may approve an application provided that:
  • The assessment cycle has been exhausted (such that an initial attempt and a resit/sit attempt have been offered)
  • The application is for a trailed, second or optional resit (following condoned/compensated credit)
  • The assessment scheduled in the mid-year or end of year assessment period for the next cohort will test all the module learning outcomes of the module and will therefore serve as an appropriate resit
  • The application is received 25 working days before the start of the assessment period in which the resit would be scheduled (decisions on applications should be made 20 working days before the start of the assessment period)
  • The application is approved after the confirmed examination timetable has been published for the assessment period, in order that the student’s assessment load may be taken into consideration alongside the student’s performance to date
  • The student’s assessment load does not exceed 150 credits per stage (an application to reschedule resits up to a maximum of 60 credits may be approved for a student with second resits)
  • The student is advised that, where the application is approved, no further resit opportunities will be offered and that the exam board will consider them for progression/award at its next meeting.
An application may be refused on logistical grounds, including where the assessment set for the next cohort is not appropriate or where a special paper is already being set in the summer vacation assessment period for the preceding cohort, as a result of a change in curriculum. An application may also be refused based on the student’s assessment load or previous attendance. A rationale must be provided where an application is refused. No appeal may be made against a decision.
Please refer to Regulation 2.3.2(iii) of the Examination and Assessment Regulations Handbook.
