PRESS RELEASE

CARTOON NETWORK’S HOTLY ANTICIPATED UK PRODUCED SERIES LAUNCHES THIS SEPTEMBER!

The Amazing World of Gumball, where normal just got a little weird…

Every Monday from 5th September at 5pm on Cartoon Network

Turner Broadcasting is proud to present the brand new UK-produced kids comedy series The Amazing World of Gumball. A smash hit in the US (as the number one show for kids in its time slot), the show has already won its first award for Best Television Production at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Cartoon Network’s first UK produced full-length animation series will be rolled out globally, and due to its enormous success has already been commissioned for a second series. Created by Ben Bocquelet and BAFTA award-winner Mic Graves as series’ director, this 36x11 minute comedy-animation, uses a unique combination of 2D and 3D animation with live-action backgrounds. The series will air in 166 countries, with its UK launch on Monday 5th September on Cartoon Network.

The Amazing World of Gumball is an animated sitcom following the misadventures of the Wattersons, a regular family in the irregular town of Elmore. Like most families, life for the Wattersons is pretty chaotic. Richard, a stay-at-home Dad and 6”4 pink rabbit, will do anything apart from work. Like any Dad his home is his castle, but in this case, the castle belongs to Mum. Nicole, a hard-working mum trying to support her family, is the picture of the perfect mother (with the exception of slight anger-management issues). Anais is the smartest of the bunch, a 4 year old genius bunny who no one listens to, who’s going to take advice from a toddler? Whilst Darwin is well…the pet goldfish who sprouted legs and became a member of the family. At the centre of it all there's Gumball, an energetic 12-year old who will try anything once; like sleeping rough when a robot steals his identity; or dressing up as a cheerleader and doing the splits to impress the girl of his dreams - Penny the peanut (with antlers). Gumball’s incurable optimism makes up for his charming stupidity which sees his endless misadventures spectacularly backfire. No matter what, he always bounces back….even though the only lessons learnt from his mistakes, is how to make more.

Elmore, the ‘average’ American small town, features a stellar cast of funny and unique characters including; Gumball and Darwin’s classmates Tina, the T Rex who is a bit of a school bully; Carrie the Emo dressing depressed ghost, and Banana Joe the class goon who laughs at everyone and likes peeling himself; their teachers Miss Simian whose been teaching second graders for 300,000 years and Principal Brown a big furry slug in love with Miss Simian.

Unlike most animations, the vocal talent behind the kids characters are kids themselves. Nine year old Logan Grove who voices Gumball already has an impressive CV having starred alongside Robert De Niro in What Happened Next, whilst 12 year old American actor Kwesi Boakye the voice of Darwin is currently starring in Hawaii Five O as well filming Lives of the Saints with Meg Ryan and 50 Cent. The use of real child actors adds a real sense of charm and genuine spontaneity to the show.
