Award Background

The ACC Matthew J. Whitehead, II Awardhonors the memory of Matthew J. Whitehead II, an ACC Board member and former Foundation president from 1992 to 2002, who passed away in April 2002.Through ACC this award celebrates the life and legacy of a visionary CLO who made diversity a core value of ACC membership, activities, and leadership.

The award recognizes outstanding achievement by a corporate counsel or a corporate legal department in creating a program or initiative that increases awareness of and commitment to corporate legal diversity, and/or the improvement of employment, retention, advancement, and career path opportunities for lawyersof diverse constituencies.

Nomination Instructions

Nomination materials must be received on or before May 5, 2017. Please make sure to complete the nomination form (page 3). It should be the first page of your nomination materials.

Nominee’s Biography and Photo

Please submit the nominee’s biography describing his or her background and contributions to diversity and inclusion efforts, along with a current photo that can be reproduced should your nominee be selected as a recipient (JPEG photo no smaller than 4 inches by 6 inches and no less than 300 dpi).

Guidelines

  1. All nominees must be ACC members
  2. Please include the nomination form (page 3) with the nomination materials, the nominee’s biography, and a current photo (JPEG photo no smaller than 4 inches by 6 inches and no less than 300 dpi).
  3. Please be aware that nomination materials will not be returned.

Individual

  1. Please supply responses to the following and attach them to the nomination materials.
  2. Provide responses and specific examples, if applicable.
  3. Describe how the nominee has achieved professional excellence in his or her field.
  4. Describe how the nominee has influenced the ability of women and other people of underrepresented racial,ethnic or religious backgrounds, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and/or physical and mental capabilities to pursue and/or to succeed in legal careers.
  5. Describe how the nominee has encouraged and supported the full and equal participation of women and other people of underrepresentedracial, ethnic or religious backgrounds, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and/or physical and mental capabilities in the legal profession.

Organization or Law Department

  1. Please supply responses to the following and attach them to the nomination materials.

  3. Describe the organization’s efforts, and the impact they have had, in advancing and promoting the full and equal participation of women and other people of underrepresented racial, ethnic or religious backgrounds, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and/or physical and mental capabilities in the legal profession.
  4. Describe how your organization has influenced the ability ofwomen and other people of underrepresented racial, ethnic or religious backgrounds, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and/or physical and mental capabilities to pursue and/or to succeed in legal careers.
  5. Describe how your organization has encouraged and supported the full and equal participation of women and other people of underrepresented racial, ethnic or religious backgrounds, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and/or physical and mental capabilities in the legal profession.
  6. Identify the department leader that oversees the organization’s efforts described above. Describe their position within the organization, including areas of responsibility and oversight.
