The Center for Women's Studies and Gender Researchinvite nominations for the

21stANNUAL Margaret B. Hazaleus Award

Margaret Bennington Hazaleus, a woman of force, compassion, and wit, became a respected mentor for a large number of women at ColoradoStateUniversity over several decades.After earning a bachelor's degree in nutrition and a master's degree in sociology from CSU, she served as the assistant dean of the College of Home Economics for a number of years. Margaret was one of the members of the Faculty Women's Caucus ad hoc committee that came together to design a course of study that would become the Women's InterdisciplinaryStudies Program. The Center for Women's Studies and Gender Research now extends course opportunities and certification at the undergraduate and graduate level to students annually. She also helped young women faculty to better understand and work through the challenges they faced early in their careers. Margaret knew sexism and human biases created limitations and she empowered women to succeed, leading to stronger lives for individuals, families, and communities.

The Center for Women’s Studies and Gender Research seeks to recognizepeople at CSU who:

a)serve as a role model for women on campus,

b)make outstanding achievements that enhance the campus environment for women,

c)have a sustained record of support to women; and

d)actively works on behalf of women, including evidence of significant mentoring.

Please consider nominatingfaculty, administrative professionals, and classified staff for this award. The nomination packet must include the following:

a)a completed nomination form,

b)a statement (two page maximum) by the nominator that describes the reasons for nominating this individualas one who exemplifies the criteria set forth above,

c)two (2) additional supporting statements (2 pages maximum)written by individuals who can attest to the contributions of the nominee; and

d)acurrent resume, curriculum vita, or similar document for the nominee.

The nomination deadline to consider nominees for this academic year is 5 pm. on Friday, February 15, 2017. Awardees will receive $1,000. The Office for the Vice President for Diversityprovides funding for this award.
