The 400-Meter Race

The graph shown above describes what happens when three athletes A, B, and C enter a 400-meter race.

YOUR TASK

Imagine you are the race commentator.

Describe what is happening in the race as CAREFULLY and as DETAILED as you can.

1.  You need to assign a name to each athlete that starts with the corresponding letter A, B, and C.

2.  You need to write a short essay (1-1.5 pages) that describes the race from start to finish, just like you are the announcer at the race.

Be sure to include in your essay, statements that address all information listed below.

a.  Descriptions of the following for each athlete’s performance in the race:

i.  Did they start fast or slow?

ii. Did they end fast or slow?

iii.  What happened in the middle? When did they go faster or slower? Provide a creative reason why!

iv.  What was their finishing time?

v. What was their average speed over the whole race?

b.  What happened at the points of intersection?

c.  Who finishes 1st, 2nd, and 3rd?
