The Swedish Institute,the Embassy of Sweden in Riga andFEE Keep Latvia Tidy have the honor to invite you to the 3rd International conference "Baltic Sea Strategy: Regional Co-operation, Tourism and Cross-Sectoral Initiatives for Sustainable Development of the Baltic Region".
The Baltic Sea has been an important communication link for thousands of years, with aflourishing trade as a natural outcome. Now the time has come to revitalize the cooperationand work together for growth, prosperity and a clean environment. The strategy contains a very concrete Action Plan with fifteen priority areas designed to address specific and important issues for its region, citizens and enterprises. In short, the strategy aims at: cleaning up the Baltic Sea; boosting the prosperity of the Region via trade and innovative enterprises; reinforcing transport connections and electric power links in the Region; enhancing the efficiency of the Region in joint accident management and the combat of cross-border crime. At the conference you are highly welcome to discuss with us the region’s priorities and the subsequent actions to be taken, as well as your role and potential involvement in the process.
The conference aims to look at the region’s challenges and potential as an attractive tourism destination and vibrant economic area proposing advanced environmental solutions. It will discuss best practices and opportunities for cross-border cooperation in order to best serve the region’s inhabitants. Therefore, you are highly welcome to discuss with us the region’s priorities and the subsequent actions to be taken, as well as your role and potential involvement in the process.
The aim of the conference is to bring together a group of well-placed international and Latvian practitioners, researchers, policy makers, journalists and NGOs operating in the field of Baltic Sea Strategy, Sustainability, Tourism, Economy and Regional Identity. The experts and participants will be sharing innovative, promising and evidence-based practical and theoretical insights and lessons from around the Baltic Sea region. Our countries have a long-standing interest in environment, saving the Baltic Sea, Regional development and sustainable development of our Coastal lines.Two previous conferences on Baltic Sea Strategy significantly contributed to the elaboration of a perspective on the role of Sustainable approach and cooperation in order to make the region to a prosperous and attractive area. A number of new projects are launched as a result of previous conferences.
The III International Conference will be a learning conference.A focus will be placed on presentation by experienced experts from region, on interaction, sharing and learning among and by the participants. International and Latvian experts will give inspiration and frameworks for the participants. Participants will be encouraged to participate in conversations and active discussions that will result in new approaches having a direct and indirect influence on situation region. Four themes form the conference structure. The topics and World Café will address the following questions:
-Regional co-operation for saving the Baltic Sea;
-Regional identity and traditions for promotion of Baltic Sea region;
-Availability of tourism infrastructure – Universal Design around the Baltic Sea;
-Joint tourism projects for sustainable business development at the coast.
The organizers of the 3rd International Baltic Sea Strategy conference are pleased to invite policy-makers, NGO representatives, journalists, researchers, students and academics from Baltic Sea region countries to this conference, which will take place at the Baltic Beach Hotel resort of Jūrmala in November 22-23, 2012.
Practical Information:
- The working language at the conference will be English, but simultaneous translation into Latvian will also be provided;
- Participation at the conference is free of charge;
- All registered participants of the conference will be provided hotel accommodation, paid by the conference organizers;
- All registered participants of the conference are welcome to coffee breaks and lunches, as well as a reception at 7 p.m. on 22nd of November;
- The number of free of charge hotel rooms, paid by the organizers is limited, thus the room reservations will be provided in the order of receipt of Registration forms.
