Road Trip!!!

The 2018Marine Corps Distinguished Shooters Association (MCDSA) Cookout

Background:

A new tradition of the MCDSA members, attending the MCM’s started in 2013. The late Capt. Frank E. Hensel USMC Ret. suggested to Capt. David A. Luke USMC Ret. that it would be good for the Association to meet at Camp Lejeune, NC during the Marine Corps Matches (MCM) to make the Association better known to theMCM competitors attending.

Since every competitor at these matches have at least one “leg” toward Distinguished, this would be excellent advertising to urge them to become members as soon as they obtain eligible status. Visiting them on the ranges during the competitions and inviting them to join us at a “Cookout” in the Sneads Ferry area would be an excellent way to market the Association. Unfortunately, the ranges at Stone Bay have beendown, undergoing a major upgrade. For that reason, the 2017 MCM’s were held at the ranges at WTBN, Quantico, and just like last year, the 2018 MCM’s are being heldthere also. Last year, we held our annual cookout at the pavilions on Range 2 at WTBN, Quantico in conjunction with the MCM’s. It was a nice turnout, butI’m sure the weather kept a lot of folks away.

What’s Up This Year???

The Marine Corps Matches will be held from 9-27 April 2018, but due to the overwhelming feedback received from our membership, your board voted to hold our MCDSA Cookout back in the Camp Lejeune area. This year, our cookout will once again be hosted by Retired GySgt and Mrs. Roger Eddington at their homein Snead’s Ferry, NC on 23 June 2018 from 1200 - 1700 ±. If you didn’t know, Roger is the son of formerUSMC Rifle Team member, Cpl. Eddington, and is also Frank and Joann Kruk’s nephew.

Cost: The cost of the Cookout will be $20.00 per person and will include all food and drinks. There will also be a silent auction and several raffles throughout the afternoon. If by chance you have any items that you no longer use and would like to donate themto the Auction, it will help fund the 2nd Edition of the Red Book. We have had many various items – shooting gear, paintings, holsters, ammunition, you name it and someone just might like to have it for themselves. All proceeds will go directly toward the funding of the second edition of “The Red Book - The History of Marine Corps Competitive Marksmanship.” The first edition was printed in 1961 and covered from 1901 - 1959. Thissecond edition will cover from 1960 to 2010.

DOD Decals:The bases here in the Camp Lejeune area are no longer issuingor requiring a base decal to gain access to our bases. Any active, retired, or dependents I.D. will be shown to the sentry and access will be granted. I just spoke to the center to confirm. They will update vehicles in the system for the Lejeune bases but no longer update decals. For our event action is not needed. Vehicle Registration: 910-449-5513
