SEPTEMBER 2003

Hey Dolphins

Some of you were at our AGM in April when Peter Williams spoke to us about Dolphin Aquatics joining with Camps Bay and Trafalgar Swimming Clubs. The reasons are twofold – firstly, there are too many small Clubs in the Western Cape and the thrust is to amalgamate and form bigger clubs and second is the need for Clubs to become more demographically representative.

The Dolphins Committee has been liasing with Camps Bay very successfully and it seems that they are now engaged to be married and taking on the name of CAPE DOLPHINS. They are still flirting with 2 other clubs and that road might be a longer one. Are we willing stepchildren or what? The amalgamation will not affect us too dramatically as there are no registered Masters swimmers in Camps Bay, but they do have prospective Masters. The idea is that the Clubs retain their own Committees but compete as one Club.

So hey – some new blood – who’s complaining - perhaps next year a new Committee – freedom is in sight! Stay tuned

This is a remarkable feat and we are truly proud of you guys

For those of you who did not get to the webpage, we got a mention from John under “Thanks”…

·  ”To Dolphins Masters, for the nourishing diet of gossip and glee”

and Brian too…

·  “Brian Button: A special thanks to Brian who has been my coach for 8 years. “

Yeah go Dolphin Masters, what would JD have done without all the gossip and glee.

Sabina and Hugh Tucker and all the others involved kept us updated and in the loop so it feels as if we have just been in Dover ourselves.

Quaint little town but windy and cold!

WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING ???

·  BRIAN CURTIS MILE 2004 - Sunday 7th March 2004.

·  SWIM FOR TERRI, SAT 6TH DEC – This is a world wide swim to be held on every continent, on this day. The initial idea is to raise funds for a little girl in the UK who suffered 90% burns when her home burnt down, but the Fund is hoping to make this an annual swim the world over, to support burn victims wherever they may be. Judy Brewis is taking on the challenge of organising this and you will be hearing more about it soon. So keep the 6th Dec free and we will fill you in.

The reason why I am sending out this newsletter so hot on the heels of the last one is the fact that YOU HAVE TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP NOW. We have to have you registered with SAMS by the end of September, so please let us have your money this week so that we have 2 weeks to follow up on any problems. SAMS and SSA do not allow any margins on their deadlines.

Below is a list of members who have not paid their subs. If your name is there and you don’t renew by next Monday, you will SOO NOT BE A MEMBER OF THE HOT DOLPHIN SQUAD, BABY!!!.

15TH SEPTEMBER IS CUT OFF DATE FOR RE- REGISTRATION

SSA DOES NOT ENTERTAIN LATE AND SAD STORIES SO PLEASE GET YOUR MONEY TO BRIAN / LIZ / ANYONE THIS WEEK!!!

WINTER FITNESS CHALLENGE

Our WFC evening went off with such a bang. Firstly a bunch of us swam the hour at the SSI and then off we trooped for sparkling water and lentil pie at Gillians house (well what do you think?)

It was great fun and if you weren’t there you should have been because there were lots of prizes to be won and laughs to be had. To be quite honest the turnout was poor and it would have been nice to see more of you.

19 out of a membership of 39 swam the WFC – that’s half the club – could do better guys!

HAPPY SEPTEMBER BIRTHDAY WISHES TO ….

Didi Petit 7th September

Nadine Foster 19th September

Tiffany de Jager 28th September

John Dickerson 29th September

AND FINALLY THANK- YOU’S TO…

·  Thank you to Gillian for all her hard work for our Winter Fitness Challenge party. Gillian went to a lot of trouble in opening her house for us and thanks too to Fergus for putting up with all the shenanigans.

·  Thank you to Brian for putting so much effort into our swimming

·  Thank you to all the friends I have made through swimming. There is so much to learn from other people and I truly value the friendships I have made over the years. (that sounds like a farewell – no such luck!)

·  Thanks to all the supporters who counted for the WINTER FITNESS CHALLENGE – may your rewards be bountiful!

·  Tiffany - for organising the gala marshals so efficiently.

·  Britt – in anticipation of some good accommodation in East London

·  Liz – for handling registrations in between bridge hands.
