Please take a look at the flyer. This is a great deal that Coach Diaz has worked out for our players. If you were to sign up on your own with GameDay, there current special is for $600-$650 for 6 weeks of workouts. We are getting 12 weeks at $450.

This is strictly a voluntary workout schedule for any player who is able to pay and attend.

Marc Strickler Tree Planting:

The tree in Marc Strickler’s honor was planted a few weeks ago. This is behind our home bleachers. A plaque is being made, and we plan to have a small dedication ceremony and memorial in November when Hunter’s grandparents can attend.

Recap of Spring 2016 fundraising and fees:

First we wanted to clarify that there are 2 sources of money that feed the Castle View High School Baseball program. There is a district account and the SaberCat Diamond Club Booster account. All money taken out of the district account has to be for certain items like uniforms and bus transportation. All funds drawn from that account are applied for by Coach Diaz with a full explanation of what the funds will be used for. It is then reviewed by the Athletic Director and hopefully approved. Funds drawn from the Booster Club account are used for equipment, the end of season banquet, coaching fees, etc. Those funds are requested by Coach Diaz, and then approved by the booster club board members.

A quick run downof Spring Season 2016:

Funds Raised through Booster club $22026.61

  • Concessions $254.17
  • Banners $7650.36
  • SnapRaise$14,122.08

Costs paid from the Booster club account $22947.97

  • End of Season Banquet $1415.37
  • Equipment $2210.80
  • Coaching Fees $9800.00
  • Fees for 501c setup $1311.29
  • Varsity AZ trip $8210.51

Funds raised from the Rockies tickets ($20,400) go directly to the district account. These funds are going to be used for the new uniforms, bus transportation for 4 teams, and field improvements.

So, as you can see we need all the help we can get with fundraising!!

Spring 2017:

Tryouts will be held sometime at the end of February or beginning of March. This is dictated by CHSAA.

Coach Diaz and the coaching staff hold a true tryout system. Each coach gives a player a score for speed, hitting, throwing, baseball IQ. Those scores are then compiled. If players have the same score, they then consult the depth chart (i.e.. what position(s)do they play, do they pitch?) Coach Diaz reiterated that he does not care where your player played baseball during the summer or fall seasons. What matters to Coach Diaz and his coaching staff is if your player does what he is told and performs his best at tryouts!

Now that we have one year under our belt as a Booster Club, we have learned from a few situations. We discussed at the meeting that Varsity players fees would most likely be raised, and possibly JV. The cost to run a Spring High School Baseball season is at least $50,000. This is a combination of money from the SaberCat Diamond Club and the District. We could reduce that by cutting things out like other sports do, i.e. bus transportation to and from games. Coach Diaz is unwilling to cut corners with our kids! He is adamant that while he is responsible for his players, there will be no risk to their safety. SO, all 4 teams will have bus transportation to and from all away games.

Manny Corpas may be able to come back again this spring and work with the players. He was a tremendous help with our pitchers this past spring.

The fee to register for Spring Baseball, as with all other CV sports, has increased from $150 to $185.This is a fee that goes directly to the District.

Summer 2017:

The Booster Club and Coach Diaz have decided to keep the summer program to 2 teams. An 18U and 17U. This is due to costs and coaching needs.

The fees are being looked at from last summer’s costs and which tournaments the teams will be accepted into. The fees will most likely be raised for next summer as well. Coach Diaz stated that he will be letting your player know asap during the Spring 2017 season if they are invited to play on one of the CVHS summer teams. There will be no tryout for this. How your player performs during the Spring season will dictate if they make one of the two teams.

Fundraising and Concessions Committee:

It was discussed that we should look into having a Fundraising Committee and a Concessions Committee. Everyone was in agreement! If we could get two parents from each grade level to volunteer for each of these committees, that would be incredible! Having a parent from each grade level will be instrumental in keeping continuity in our program we are constantly trying to build and improve upon! Please contact Coach Diaz or a Booster club board member if you are interested, and which committee you would like to be a part of.

Needs for our program:

New Varsity uniforms-- $7000

Hats for entire program -- $3500

Field: The dirt and grass need to be replaced in the infield. Current quote was $22,000. We would like to at least get the dirt replaced. There is a specific dirt that does not erode as quickly. (only 1” annually, current dirt erodes 4-5” per storm)

Wood floors in the dugouts—Safer for the players to be on wood than concrete with metal cleats.

Bathrooms

Working on new batting nets that are college grade

Help building a shed for field maintenance equipment

Kabota or something similar to help with hauling dirt and trash removal

Home team bleacher canopy

Bubble for indoor batting

Help removing 9ft strip of grass along backstop to prevent weed growth in the grass
