Thursday 14th October – Big Write

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all of you who were able to attend the ‘End of Year Expectations’ meeting today. If you were unable to attend, your child has been sent home with the same information tonight (fingers crossed this is in their bag!). We had an exciting music lesson this week as we learnt to play the ukulele – it was great fun! We hope you spotted the photographs we tweeted.

We will continue to study our classic text, Gulliver’s Travels next week and the children will write in the style of a newspaper report from the viewpoint of the Lilliputians. They will imagine they are reporting the arrival of the giant stranger, Lemuel Gulliver, on their island. The Lilliputians have never met a human as large and are very scared of him at first.

Please refer to the success criteria below as you talk about your ideas for the newspaper report.

Writing a plan for a Newspaper Report

Can I include the 5w’s in my introduction?

Can I write in the past tense?

SPaG

We would like to continue to focus on handwriting again this week especially focusing on the sizing of the letters and ensuring the letters sit on the line. Please complete the attached sheet and return to school for a reward.

Mathematics

This week we have progressed to mental addition strategies. For example: adding tens to make 100, + 9 by adding 10 and then taking 1 away, finding 10 more and 10 less from a HTU number. Can you practise these skills on Mathletics or make a poster to show off your knowledge.

Thank you for your continued support, Clare Scott and Amber Thompson.
