Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund

BACKGROUND – The Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund was founded in 1947 to provide financial assistance for selected high school graduates who have demonstrated both interest and ability to pursue a college or technical education. The Fund is guided by 20 volunteer members and administered by a Board of Directors. It is supported through contributions and bequests of community members, businesses, students and friends.

OCONOMOWOC SCHOLARSHIP – FOUR YEAR

SELECTION PROCESS – This scholarship is available to any Oconomowoc Area School District resident, or is/was open enrolled at Oconomowoc High School for at least four semesters, and who is/was a graduating senior of any accredited high school. Financial need, academic achievement, citizenship, career goals and the general appearance of the application are some of the criteria on which applicant selection is based. The decision of the OSF regarding selection of scholarship recipients is final and undisputable.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD – $2,500 per year for (4) years or $10,000 total only for undergraduate degree programs. All scholarship awards are subject to availability of funds.

ELIGIBILTY – To be eligible for this scholarship you may not be receiving more than 50% of your tuition, fees, room and board costs from other scholarship, awards and grants (students and parents will be asked to certify in writing, prior to awarding of scholarship).

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENT – Renewable, for a total of four years providing the student remains in good standing with his or her college or university and continues to meet the criteria concerning other awards, grants and scholarships.

OCONOMOWOC SCHOLARSHIP – TWO YEAR or TECHNICAL SCHOOL

SELECTION PROCESS – This scholarship is available to any Oconomowoc Area School District resident, or is/was open enrolled at Oconomowoc High School for at least four semesters, and who is/was a graduating senior of any accredited high school. Financial need, academic achievement, citizenship, career goals and the general appearance of the application are some of the criteria on which applicant selection is based. The decision of the OSF regarding selection of scholarship recipients is final and undisputable.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD – $1,250 per year for (2) years or $2,500 total only for undergraduate degree programs. All scholarship awards are subject to availability of funds.

ELIGIBILTY – No limitation of other scholarships and awards.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENT – Renewable, for a total of two years providing the student remains in good standing with his or her school.

THOMAS MOUNT FUTURE LEADER AWARD

SELECTION PROCESS - This scholarship is available to any Oconomowoc Area School District resident, or is/was open enrolled at Oconomowoc High School for at least four semesters, and who is/was a graduating senior of any accredited high school, and a prospective student of UW Madison. Financial need, academic achievement, citizenship, career goals, demonstration of leadership and the general appearance of the application are some of the criteria on which applicant selection is based. The decision of the OSF regarding selection of scholarship recipients is final and undisputable.

The applications of students who do not receive this award will automatically be considered for an Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund award.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD – Tuition and books for (8) semesters at the University of Wisconsin Madison, up to a maximum of $8,500.00 per year for (4) years, or $34,000 for undergraduate degree programs.

ELIGIBILTY – Must attend UW Madison

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENT - A 3.2 minimum grade point is required after (2) years to qualify for the final (2) years.

GEORGE MARKHAM SCHOLARSHIP

SELECTION PROCESS - This scholarship is available to any Oconomowoc Area School District resident, or is/was open enrolled at Oconomowoc High School for at least four semesters, and who is/was a graduating senior of any accredited high school, and will major in music, theater or arts. Financial need, academic achievement, citizenship, career goals, demonstration of leadership and the general appearance of the application are some of the criteria on which applicant selection is based. The decision of the OSF regarding selection of scholarship recipients is final and undisputable.

The applications of students who do not receive this award will automatically be considered for an Oconomowoc Scholarship Fund award.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD – $5,000 for (1) year for undergraduate degree programs.

ELIGIBILTY – Must major in music, theater or arts.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENT - None

ESSAY

Submit an essay of 400 words or less indicating (1) why you wish to take your chosen course of study, (2) your reasons for applying for a scholarship and (3) any special circumstances that the Committee should take into consideration when reviewing your application. Be creative, thoughtful, and original. Take this opportunity to differentiate yourself from other applicants. Offer a straightforward, genuine assessment of your strengths and successes.

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT AND ACT/SAT TEST SCORES

Include an official high school transcript including your ACT/SAT scores.

REFERENCES

Reference forms should be submitted from your school counselor, teacher, employer, community leader or other unrelated adult.

The financial position of the student and his/her family is a factor in the granting of this scholarship. It is imperative that you have your parents or guardian furnish us with the financial information requested.
