Vinolok – the glass closure

Testimonials - find out why so many producers love Vinolok

The main reason why so many winemakers use Vinolok is the glass closure influence of: ageing, taste, design, reliability, value, functionality, stability and impression.

Vinolok is used for wines and spirit worldwide. The main markets are France, Italy, Germany, Austria Spain, USA, Australia and Russia.

It is not a coincidence that Vinolok is often chosen by organic or biodynamic producers. Glass – a harmless, clean, environmentally friendly, recyclable material – fits very well with their philosophy, but also with today's ecological demands. Oenological properties of the Vinolok glass closure are being tested by Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI), which is verifying Vinolok OTR (Oxygen transmission rate) performance.

Wines with the Vinolok glass closure keep fruitiness longer than wines closed by natural cork, while simultaneously matured notes are developed, as the glass closure lets more oxygen through than a screwcap. This combination is unique and impossible to achieve with any other type of closure.

Tastings at ProWein 2015 clearly confirmed that Vinolok glass closure is a perfect closure for long aging wines. The unique combination of the fruitiness and matured notes of wines aged up to 10 years under the glass closure.

Rowald Hepp, Schloss Vollrads, Germany: "History and consistency can be kept only when you reflect what is the better solution for your product, your wine. Wines are without any doubt influenced by the closure."

Wolfgang Klotz, Cantina Tramin, Italy: "We have been using Vinolok for eight years. The glass closure is the only acceptable closure, except natural cork, for high quality wines in conservative Italy,"

Fred Loimer, Weingut Loimer, Austria: " Before I started to use Vinolok, I had many chances to compare wines closed by natural cork and Vinolok at Sattlerhof winery. Wines with Vinolok performed better! Wines closed by screwcap sometimes show reductive aromas after several years of aging, which I do not like. I desire right development for my wines, which Vinolok enables."

Gernot Heinrich, Weingut Heinrich, Austria: "One of the main reasons for choosing Vinolok was the fact that when I was using natural cork, the problem was that after some years of aging around 40 percent of bottles showed some differences and were not perfect. I found this percentage too high. Slow impact of oxygen keeps the aroma and limestone terroir expression of my Blaufränkisch perfectly."

Istvan Szepsy Jr., Szent Tamás, Hungary: “I often had bad experience with natural cork – not always cork taint, but quality of wines with natural cork was not good and consistent. With glass closure I have managed to avoid this. Furthermore I can compare the glass closure on the top of my bottles to a piece of diamond.

Franz Josef Loacker, Loacker winery, Moltancino, Italy: “Sangiovese 2001 closed by Vinolok closure was still unbelievably young and 2004 vintage showed freshness, fruitiness and nice acidity, combined with beautiful matured notes. I strongly believe that Vinolok is an ideal closure for heavy, dense wines."

Stephen Henschke, Henschke winery, Australia: “Not long after that we brought the first Vinolok closures to Australia and embarked on a five-year trial conducted by the Australian Wine Research Institute to do the due diligence. The quality of presentation, reliability and robustness of the glass stopper makes it an ideal replacement for cork. Cork has a failure rate of between 10 and 50%. Vinolok has close to zero at the same cost. Red wine in a 750 ml bottle ages under Vinolok as if it were bottled in a large-format bottle maintaining its colour, aroma and structure over a longer period of time.”
