Internship position

Operations Researchanalyst

I – BACKGROUND

International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is seeking to recruit an intern to assist IFC’s Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) operations. This will provide an opportunity for selected candidates to build practical skills and develop experience working in an international organization; gain exposure to the international development effort; and deepen the understanding of BiH development priorities and challenges. This, in turn, would enrich IFC with interns’ unique inputs and perspectives. The internship promises to be an interesting and rewarding opportunity for career and personal development.

To be eligible for the internship Program, candidates must be enrolled in a final year of University program or pursuing a Master’s program with plans to return to school in full-time capacity.

II – OBJECTIVE

To provide incumbent with on-the-job training in research and data gathering skills; economic cost-benefit analysis and standard cost models; company data research; communication and people skills, and work ethics.

III – DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The specific duties and responsibilities of intern will include:

Corporate Governance

-Desk research of companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina that would benefit from corporate governance advisory services;

-Preparation of training background materials on the topics of corporate governance, internal controls, risk management and other topics as assigned by the supervisor;

-Research and assistance in drafting written reports for internal and external use based on guidelines provided by the supervisor.

Access to finance

-Review of microfinance sector institutional performance data and aggregate repayment statistics to determine existence of statistically significant correlations and the implications for microfinance institutions’ performance;

-Write-up of a brief narrative above regarding the research above.

Country Office

-Assist with completing/updating of the private sector mapping, especially in agribusiness and manufacturing

-Help research and draft reports/papers on sector specific topics, that would inform strategy discussions (power, SMEs, agribusiness, etc.)

V – COMPETENCIES

Education:A final year at the Business Administration, Finance, Banking, Financial Management, Economics, or related finance field,or pursuing a Master degree in Business Administration, Finance, Banking, Financial Management, Economics, or related finance field.

Core Competencies:

  • Proven strong academic track record.
  • Knowledge and understanding of private and financial sector issues in BiH and Western Balkans.
  • Experience in doing data gathering and research is must.
  • Experience in collecting and searching data on the Internet.
  • Communication skills in local language are must, command in English languagepreferred.
  • High level of computer literacy (Excel, Word).
  • Some previous work experience is advantageous.
  • Proven analytical and report writing skills are advantageous.

VI –DURATION & DUTY STATION

The assignment is for 3 months, starting from approx. April 15, 2013. The assistance will be provided in Sarajevo. This is a part-time position, allowing for flexibility with studies. Intern will not be given IFC e-mail account. Intern will be given access to IFC premises, but will not be permanently occupying IFC premises.
