Club Next Generation Academy Terms of Participation

These terms form the terms on which you agree to allow your child to participate in the Next Generation Academy program (Program) conducted by the AFL Club that your child is registering with (Club).

1. Application to Participate

(a)You warrant that your child is between the ages of 11 and 15 (inclusive) at the time of his or her participation in the Program and agree that you must, if requested by the AFL or the Club, provide evidence of your Child's age.

(b)You must:

(i)Complete either the online or paper registration form and agree to the terms of participation;

(ii)agree that your child understands the player code of behaviour (below); and

(iii)agree that you understand and will comply with the Code of Conduct for Parents and Spectator (below).

2. Eligibility

(a)By registering your child as a participant in the Program with this Club you understand that the Club is the only AFL Club that is able apply to the AFL to have your child declared as an eligible talent concession player if your child meets the relevant criteria (e.g. indigenous/multicultural).

(b)Acceptance of any eligible talent concession application in relation to your child by another Club will be at the AFL’s absolute discretion.

3. Limitation of liability and Release

(a)You understand that there are inherent risks associated with participation in the Program, which may result in personal injury (even of a serious nature) to participants and that you fully accept and agree to bear those risks.

(b)You agree not to bring any claim or proceeding against the AFL or the Club for any damage, loss or injury whatsoever that you or your child may suffer from participation in the Program.

(c)The AFL's liability to you is limited (at the AFL's election) to the AFL or the Club supplying or resupplying any Program services to which you are entitled in accordance with the terms of this Agreement.

4. Insurance

(a)You understand that as a registered participant in the Program your child is entitled to certain Sports Injury Insurance benefits available at You accept that the level of cover provided to your child as a participant is the level chosen by the Australian Football League and does not include the Medicare “Gap” which cannot be insured.

(b)It is strongly recommended that the participant has top level private health insurance.

(c)Participants in Youth and younger Club Academy activities including academy games will have medical assistance available. Should further treatment be required the player should visit his family doctor/physio or visit a recommended doctor/physio through the Academy.

(d)Loss of income insurance (if applicable) is the participant’s responsibility, and is available through JLT Insurance Brokers, and can be arranged through the Club. If the Player is concerned that a football injury may impact his usual occupation, it is recommended that the Player has loss of income insurance.

5. Cancellation, Refunds and Termination

(a)If you wish to cancel your Application, you must notify the AFL and your Club in writing.

(b)The AFL and the Clubare not liable to you for any loss or damage you suffer as a result of the Program being cancelled, postponed or changed.

(c)The AFL or the Club will not replace your participant benefits if lost, stolen or damaged.

(d)The AFL or the Club may terminate your child's involvement in the Program on reasonable grounds at any time, including if your child's behaviour interferes with other participant's safety or enjoyment of the Program.

6. Privacy

(a)The personal information that the Club collects on the registration form is used for the purpose of processing your request for participation in the Program and any associated administrative purposes. The AFL and the Club may also use this information to send you football related information or offers.

(b)The Club or the AFL may disclose your information to other organisations for the purpose of processing your application, research and development and performance evaluation. These organisations are required to keep your contact details confidential and to use them only for the stated purposes.

(c)All information supplied to you is subject to the Club's Privacy Policy.

7. Photographs

You consent to the Club and the AFLusing your child's name or image (including photograph and footage) in any form or medium for general marketing and promotional activities. If you do not wish to consent to your child’s name and image being used please notify the Club.

8. General

(a)The Club may reject or choose not to accept a registration in its absolute discretion.

(b)The Club may change all dates, session times, durations and locations of the Program

Player Code of Behaviour

By registering in the Program you have agreed that your child understands and will adhere to the code of behaviour:

  1. Play within the spirit of the game and by the rules of the competition.
  2. If you have an issue, report it to the Club’s NGA representative.
  3. Verbal abuse of officials or other players, and deliberate distraction or provocation of an opponent are not permitted.
  4. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor or team mate.
  5. Cooperate with your coach, teammates and opponents.
  6. Show respect to all players regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

Code of conduct – Parents and Spectators

  1. Encourage children to participate regardless of ability
  2. Encourage participants to always play by the rules
  3. Never ridicule mistakes or losses
  4. Remember that participants learn best by example. Applaud good play by all teams
  5. Never publicly disagree with officials. If you disagree, raise the issue privately through appropriate channels
  6. Actively discourage racial abuse, and show respect to all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion
  7. Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches
  8. Remember that participants play for fun and are not miniature professionals
  9. Condemn the use of violence in any form, be it by spectators, coaches, officials or players
  10. Encourage players to accept the umpire's decisions
  11. Demonstrate exemplary behaviour by not using foul language, or harassing players, coaches or officials
  12. Smoking and the consumption of alcohol is unacceptable at junior sport
