RyeCommunityPrimary School
“A Gateway to learning”

Dear Parents,

We have had a brilliant term of learning in Cuttlefish, exploring our wonderful topic of Antarctica. Next we will be moving on to our new topic; Fairtrade and Farming.

Term 4 Learning in Cuttlefish

As our topic is focused around Fairtrade and Farming, we will be exploring the ways in which our food is grown, sourced and transported. Alongside this we will be growing our own produce too! We will also have the opportunity to visit a local supermarket to see the Fairtrade products that are available.

PE

Premier Sports will run our PE lesson on Tuesday.

There has been a significant number of children that have not had a full PE kit throughout the last three terms, so if you could please ensure that your child has sufficient kit available on this day and that all kit is named.

Mathematics

This term in Maths we will be beginning our learning by looking at 2D and 3D shapes and their different properties. We will then be moving to the world of telling the time and the different months of the year. Finally we will be revising multiplication and division problems.

English

Our class book this term is ‘Jemmy Button’ written by Jennifer Uman and Valerio Vidali. This links in with our topic of fair trade, as it is set in the Rainforest where Jemmy feasts on cocoa beans and the tropical fruit available. We will use the text to support us in creating our own ‘Rags to Riches’ stories, as well as writing from Jemmy Button’s point of view.

Termly Project

The children can make any of the listed below.

  • 3D tropical forest
  • A boat that Jemmy Button would of sailed on
  • A model/drawing/painting/collage of Jemmy Button himself.

Trips

Art Project trips to the Jerwood on the Monday 13th and Monday 27th of March

Rare Breeds Centre on the Thursday 16th March 2017

Chrysalis Capers

We will be continuing our favourite friendly reading session on Friday afternoon’s, where parents are welcome to accompany us if you are available between 2:30 and 3:00pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to read with your child and their class, and also allows time to ask any questions regarding homework or other queries you may have.

Thank you for yourcontinuing support.

Mr Gurr
