Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Literacy

West Chester University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Literacy invites applications for one or more tenure-track positions of Assistant Professor in Literacy/Reading Education. The Department of Literacy is made up of dynamic, knowledgeable, and supportive faculty who are committed to the communities that we serve. We encourage applications from candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our department.
Primary responsibility is to teach undergraduate and master’s level graduate courses in Literacy/Reading and Teacher Education. Additional responsibilities include pursuing scholarly activities; advising students; and service to the department, college, university, and professional organizations. Candidates will contribute to the department’s online and off-campus efforts. There may also be opportunities to teach in the university’s Academic Development Program.
Doctorate earned by August 2017 in Literacy/Reading or related field with emphasis in Literacy/Reading Education; minimum three years teaching experience in grades Pre-K-12; strong commitment to teaching; and potential for literacy-related research and scholarship. Candidates should have expertise in several of the following relevant areas: comprehension, fluency, and orthographic knowledge;administering and analyzing literacy assessment data to inform differentiated instruction and intervention; working, coaching and supervising in diverse school settings; digital/multi-modal literacy.
