ETAWelfare Officer

An exciting opportunity to join our team on the Thailand English Teaching Programme – TET 2015

Since 2012, the Thailand English Teaching Programme, a joint British Council/Thailand Ministry of Education Programme, has brought over 500 UK students and recent graduates to Thailand to work as English Teaching Assistants in Thai schools and colleges.

In 2015, we are aiming to bring 250 UK language assistants to Thailand. They will work alongside Thai English teachers in primary, secondary and vocational schools.

We are now recruitinga team of 5ETA Welfare Officersto assist with setting up the TET 2015programme and supporting our English Teaching Assistants during their placements. These temporary positions will be for a period of three months starting on 2 June2015 and finishing on 30 August 2015.

Each ETAWelfare Officer will be responsible for looking after50 English Teaching Assistants in a specific region of Thailand. The English Teaching Assistants are all students or recent graduates from UK universities.

The ETA Welfare Officer team will be managed by anETA Welfare Manager who will oversee the care of all English Teaching Assistantson the programme.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with the British Council on an important international project that will have lasting impact on both UK students and Thai school pupils.

ETA Welfare Officer Duties will include:

  • In June 2015 - Visiting schools in an assigned region of Thailand to carry out checks and risk assessment of ETA’s workplace and accommodation
  • 26 – 27 June2015 – Attending and contributing to the TET2015Orientation event in Bangkok.
  • Establishing communications/liaison with Thai Ministry of Education contact and host schools in order to provide first line support to ETAs.
  • Keepingwritten records of each ETA under your care and reporting to and communicating regularly with TET Programme manager
  • Making site visits to ETAs at their school during their 9-week placement period in July and August..
  • Being available to communicate with ETAsand to trouble shoot issues and problems as they arise between 8am and 8pm, five days a week, over a staggered week (there will be a requirement to work at least 2 weekends out of the 9-week period).
  • Making 3 telephone catch-up calls with each ETA during the placement period.

Successful candidates will have the following skills and competencies:

  • Strong written, interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Thai.
  • Good administrative and organisation skills including demonstrable competence in using technology and Microsoft Office suite or similar programmes.
  • Flexibility, good teamworking skills and an ability to work independently towards agreed goals
  • Education to tertiary level.

Previous experience of working with Thai government departments and officials, Thai schools or UK/International students would be an advantage.

ETA Welfare Officers will be required to travel extensively in Thailand. This will often involve overnight stays for 1 or more nights at a time.

These positions are open to Thai nationals only.

Payment

A Feeof 20,000 baht per month will be paid in arrears.

An additional travel and accommodation allowance will be paid for days away from home.
